The Herald Sun is reporting that Jordan russel could be promoted as early as this week and could line up against the swans.

He flew over to WA with the team and was told to bring along his boots incase a few players got injured.

Was also training with the main group, on Monday, instead of the VFL group...if I read BV's report right.
Denis also mentioned that he would be looking 2 or 3 players to be playing soon.

He's going to play, I reckon.

1) we play shit.kilda
2) he cannot be promoted as he already is a senior listed player, so no need for promotion.

Is that better!

I think Hartlett and Jesse Smith will also get a game before the season is over.

A decision will be made on deluca next week if he will be placed on the long term injury list.

Good news on Russell being close to selection and might play this week. I think playing the young guys towards the end of the season is a good idea. Gives them a little extra motivation over the pre season and gives them ideas where they need to improve. See how they go with the extra speed of play at the highest level. Would like to see Blackwell tried in the last 2 games of the season. Not sure if Hartlett is ready after his injury. Fisher will definitely play when he gst some more fitness. ADL going LT injured perhaps will allow the club to pick Smith or Carlos for some senior games.
Why is Bentick not getting a game? He is very hard at it and played well in the VFL. I realise he is slow but he is a better prospect than Bowyer and others. He has just turned 20 and has improvement in him. Unlike some other players who have had years and years of pre seasons and games to still be mediocre.

re: Carlos and Smith..if ADL was placed on the LTI list then I would be tempted to promote Smith..we know Carlos and what he can do and I have no doubt he will be senior listed next year but I wouldnt mind seeing young Jessie play and get a handle on his capabilities...if Smith shows something then it may affect how we draft/trade/delist at end of season...

I think this is what most supporters want to see now - kids like Smith and Russell get their chance and perform admirably.

Like the flag at the end of a golf hole, it's called HOPE.

Fair call.

Would love to see how Jessie applies himself to the faster pace of AFL footy.

Went to training for the first time yesterday, something I never do as I live in Sydney, so it was a big thing for me!

I paid particular attention to the young boys and JD Smith was the standout. I accept people say he ain't quick but he seemed to be moving across OO quite nicely. Looked no slower than Scotland. Would be very surprised if JD doesn't get promoted this yr and is not on the senior list next yr, if yesterdays training is anything to go by

Raso looks all class, nice mover, beautiful kick and seems to do the skilful things with little effort. Excited about this kid. Just waiting for those 10kgs

Luke Blackwell looks like he's bulked up a bit, now looks nothing like the stickman on the CFC website photo. He appeared injured and spent most of his time doing sprints.

Carlos moves like a ruck rover, covers the ground quickly (albeit ungainly) and his kicking has penetration. Just hope he can continue to improve the positional stuff and one on one marking component of his game.

Give us something Denis, play at least Russell plus one other!

I understand where most of you are coming from by saying "why hold back" on the youngsters - lets see what they have got...

The thing is though, should we be allowing our raw kids to be exposed to the crap which the boys have been serving up on the field of late?

Do we want to see them amoungst this rubbish where we as supporters see no onfield leadership, grunt nor team play.

Could it at all stall their careers?

If Denis though were to select them this season, he would be looking to see if they at all possess any of the so called 'fundamentals' and stand up to the rigours of AFL.

We just never know, if our kids are super strong individuals, then we soon might be seeing a Russell, a Hartlett or a Blackwell show a few of our so called 'leadership group' players a thing or two about how to play in the Carlton jumper.

I can almost see it, supporters yelling out, "Give 'em a run for their money!"...

Your thoughts?..

Really looking forward to see Jordan make to step up. I only hope that this is not a case of 'good news story to deflect the bad', a la Malthouse / Sheedy every other week. I guess we'll know if he's named tonight but misses the final 22.
