I have my fingers crossed for a draw.....but causing maximum physical carnage on the Aints..
...Or a win if the players are disciplined enough to lose to the Hawks and everyone else or come last anyway with two picks in the top 3....!!! :D

I'm nursing a sick daughter today, so I'll be following the game on radio unfortunately.

Agree with Synbad, a draw with a couple of busted-up sainters would be lovely.

I reckon the Hawks are going to do all they can to lay down against us, so unfortunately we can't afford to win too many from here on in.

Having just re-read what I wrote in the paragraph above, I find it hard to fathom that the AFL will keep priority picks in their current format after this year.

If we play Kouta in the centre and Whitnall forward then i would think we would have a big chance.

Just can't see Dennis doing that though!

Great to see Prendagast in the side yet again after such a quality effort last week!

Is there any chance we can please, please, please draft some young kids who can find the the goddamn footy and pick up their man when needed? Screw this draft tall KPP crap. This midfield is officially the worst to ever don the navy blue and it is painful to watch

Problem is Jenx, we have no talent across the board.

You have to go back to the VFL times to find a team with this level of crapness right through its list.

We are in a MASSIVE hole, one which - being realistic and pragmatic - will take a good 4-5 years before we can be competative again on a consistant basis ... and thats if we do everything right.

This is what I see happening.

1. Consolidate and build a midfield.
This needs to be the first priority. Improving this area will help reduce the hidings. Problem is, this next draft ... I think .... will only allow us to consolidate our midfield, not adding to it substancially. Our midfield is heavily reliant on Kouta and Campo. Both are the wrong side of 30 and will be out in 2 years if not sooner. Unless we can get our hands on a Cooney or Judd... ie a kid with an immediate impact... it will take this years draftee's at least that long to establish themselves.

We must also target a gun midfielder ... preferably an in and under .... via the preseason draft if we want to leap frog our development.

2. Leadership.
The darth of leadership is a real worry. Kouta would be an OK leader in a good side, but I think its time to remove this burdon from him. I still think Waite is our longer term leader, but for next year, give it to French.

3. Rucks.
Outside of French, we haven't got a ruck man. Everyone is waiting for Aisake to make it, but for my mind, thats placing our faith in unproven hands, at least in the short term. We need a ready made ruckman. This is the only other position I would consider using the preseason draft pick for.

4. Forwards.

Our forwards will develop. If anything I still think most of our talent can be considered in this area. Fev needs a full on attitude adjustment, and Lance is doing the best he can in a game that has passed him by. But I have no doubt that Fisher, Betts, Waite will grow. Add Setanta who I think will play 10+ games next year and begin some senior development ... this area is not looking too bad. Probably missing a key CHF, but they are few and far between, so not a super loss.

5. Defence.
Fighting manfully with way too much trafic than anyone can cope with. Norman is a huge loss. A player with so much potential, but adding nothing. We need two more talls to help out Livo and TBird, and then a few more runners. Obviously, outside of Midfield/Ruck, this is our greatest weakness, and one I think is harder to fix.

Quite frankly guys, I think we are [REDACTED] for a few more years yet.

Max physical carnage???....that would require tackling, bumping, looking after you teammates and playing with attitude...you wont find any of those attributes associated with the Carlton football club during this season....wishful thinking....

Spot on Elwood. The players gave new meaning to the word insipid in their "attempts" at tackling/bumping/shepherding. When the opposition were not waltzing around stationery opponents they were just crashing through knowing not only would the arms not be pinned but the Carlton player would fall over.
