Carlton were well known for bursts of goals in the third quarter, 'the premiership quarter'.

Now we should also be acknowledged by allowing bursts of goals in the third quarter, which should now be known as 'the priority pick quarter'.

Since this blues team realised they were a realistic chance for the coveted priority pick they have been hungry and relentless in their drive towards that goal.

Tactically it is brilliant, if a heap of goals are let through in the third quarter it allows for little time to retaliate, and also provides a chance to reduce percentage in case it is needed come seasons end.

The last few weeks have been fantastic for goals against in the priority pick quarter:

R11: 4.2 OK
R12: 6.5 Good
R13: 6.5 Good
R14: 10.5 Brilliant
R15: 8.7 Very good

Just as it is just as difficult to pick 0 in the tippings as it is to pick 8, you blueboys have shown a determination not to be determined, courage to lack courage and you have really tried not to try better than any team I have seen for quite some time.

Richmond did quite well last year losing their last 14 in a row to get the coveted pee pee, but I have belief in you boys, I think you can do it. If we can keep up this form with 'the priority pick quarter' we are a big chance to outdo them.

Nice one, Jarusa.

Unfortunately, it looks like Hawthorn have adopted a similar game-plan. Except they've adapted it to include a 'belated comeback' in the fourth quarter.

We tried that earlier in the year but managed to scrape 2 wins and a draw - we had to end that tactic there and then !

I know one thing... I wont be paying to go to the games for the rest of the year! I dont get to many, and only been to 2 this year, but if you know the team is going to tank every week there's no way i'll put up the extra whatever it is for a seat to watch an opposition training drill.

Just my thoughts on this tanking rubbish.

Mate the whole "tanking thing " it's only used as something that people use to excuse us for being so bad. If tanking wasn't the reason the reality of our situation is ......D ! I'd much rather accept we are tanking than trying to come to grips with how hopeless we really are.

Let the tank talk continue its a positive for some. Let them have there positives.

We're not tanking, we really are that far behind most other teams.
Try this little exercise, see how many current Carlton listed players you can name that would get a game at the Lions, Eagles, Power etc etc.

I don't know how a club can tank. Maybe I'm delusional but I don't see how a team can consistently stop to a dead halt in the third quarter every week.

I really do believe there is tanking going on.

Well the senior players could tank.........some of them have their premiership medallion, some already have their HUGE pay cheques which should set them up for life......why would they bother? They should just piss off!

I reckon it's because after 1/2 time our midfield runs out of legs because our midfield rotation is smaller and weaker than other teams.
Compare West Coast's midfield to ours, they have something like 8-10 very good players they can rotate through the midfield, we're lucky if we've got 6 genuine onballers.

I was dragged to the game by my wife... said to her at halftime, just waite until the Saints get a couple of goals early in the third and then see the senior players stop playing.

This is not tanking, this are the senior players not putting in - especially Campo and Whitnall and now even Kouta. I believe they are a cancer in the team. If Pagan has some balls he should let Campo and Whitnall have a game in the VFL. This would make a point to the playing group.

Don't agree - this is only part of it. If you atttend the game it is easier to see. The senior group just stops running, chasing, tackling etc. Better teams punish you for that.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's purely the midfield, but seeing as that's where the ball starts after every goal it's a pretty big handicap.

Guys you're talking about the same thing. The senior players hold a majority stake in the midfield

Problems start and end with the midfield = Problems start and end with the senior players

We have a gun midfield.
Problem is they dont care.......................................

I actually picked this at the Collingwood game.
I knew it last year but i was sucked in.....im sick and tired of watching half hearted effforts from especially captain and vice captain.

I reckon Lance actually tries (too bad he is shit and not mobile) but i give him full marks for trying.... Campo and Kouta are a joke .

et rid of Campo and Lance.. with Kouta next year... and anyone else who doesnt want to be part of getting back on track. (Lappin and Houla).

So Jarusa...is this an article for the website anytime soon?

Don't think it's the third, just anytime a team gets a break or run (Richmond 1 minute into the first)....a bunch of players drop their heads and it's all over...no chase no tackling etc. If by some miracle a run doesn't happen (or God forbid happens the other way) then it's all in for your chop (a la Dons comeback)

There would be some heavy editing. Probably would end up as,
