It's an issue of who wants to play...and who is there for the ride. They are all (yes even Whitts) nearing the end. I think Lappo is the guys that we can get the most out of .....but contracts and teams are not built on individual players ....to use an old cliche...have to do what's best for the whole team!

I think the ABC boys covered it pretty well yesterday - Carlton should sign anyone who was still having a crack when things went very sour. I don't agree with signing people on past performance (which was one of their reasons for keeping Lappo) - but just yesterday I decided that if he wants to make a three year commitment when we're travelling this poorly, we should concede on that point, and negotiate elsewhere in his contract to protect ourselves....

Although, saying publicly that we gave Fev a contract he doesn't necessarily deserve means Lappo has every right to moan till he gets what he wants......

I'd sign Lappin.

The other two can bugger off.

I'd sign each but on contracts related to performance and career status! You'd think this was a given but not at Carlton 2000-2005. Luckily, this period is set to end. But each has something to offer, just not on their current roles.

To me, Whitnall is really only a FP / HFF. He should be paid accordingly. Campo is on the other HFF, because he's not a premium midfielder. Lappin deserves a bit of respect for his efforts over the past 5 years, and really, how many of us thought he would win the B&F? He should go back to being a forward but I agree with posters who say 2 years only.

Add savings from the above + Beaumont, Allan and Clarke contracts all ending and we have some cash to use.

Wow - just shows how differently two people can read form - I think Lappo's been one of the shining lights for us because he may get towelled, but he'll give it a crack 95% of the time....

I think we should be ballsy and drop Campo to the reserves to see if he's hungry enough still - and I'm a big Whitnall supporter, so even though he hasn't had much form this year, I can find reasons to keep him.... :)

I'd try keeping all 3 on realistic contracts. If they don't accept that then they can go.

In order of preference I'd keep

1. Whitnall stands out with his youth and smarts
2. Lappin has some value and still playing well
3. Campo huge disappointment this season, but might be value for $200k in a Riccardi type role.

Lappin is worth 300k a season for 2 years. If he wants 3 then he needs to be traded.

Whitnall is worth 250k and a 2 year contract. If he wants more then trade him.

Campo is worth 200k a season and a 2 year contract. See above if he wants more.

All 3 should be offered around to see if anybody is interested.

Carlton should only trade for draft picks unless a quality player is thrown in. Use our draft picks and a player to move up in the draft.

Campo and our pick 34 (third round) to a club for a pick from 20 to 25.

Whitnall and pick 18 for a pick in the top 10.

Or a straight swap for a draft pick

Houlihan is the other player who should be offered around.

What is Nick Stevens worth on the trade market?

2 first round picks?

a first round and a second round?

lappo should stay for sure.

maybe not a three year deal thou.
surprised why people are canning him on here. he puts in every week.

probably time to cut our losses with campo and lance if they dont come to the party with reduced contracts however.

show faith in simpson, he's already doing a better job than campo.

i'd put campo in the forward pocket if betts isn't getting a run.

How did you rate Campo on the weekend?

i think lapps has been playing for himself.

against brisbane he had around 30 touches and 10+ marks all across chb uncontested.

as for lance and to a degree fev, i would like to see anyone playing up forward with the crap that is being dished up by the midfield.

Couldnt agree more. Lappin has escaped criticim by racking up uncontested possessions, but he has been largely ineffectual. Skills are hit and miss, tackling is very poor, like many of our key players he goes missing when the real heat is on. He has squibbed it on several occasions going for marks and pulling out to protect himself. Against players such as Mark Johnson and Jonothan Bown he refuses to tackle them at all. When confronted with the ball he will get rid of it anywhere to avoid heavy contact and turn the ball over.
I would reconsider buying a membership if this guy gets a 3 year contract.
I would rather see him walk.

I'd sign up Whitnall...........provided Dennis didn't move him from the 50mt arc! Anywhere outside of this and he's game is taken from him!
