Collo's Plan

Quote:
Battling Blues plan for a brighter future

BOTTOM-placed Carlton is putting a plan in place to lift itself out of the mire.
An executive match committee has been formed to draw up a formula for on-field improvement.
The Blues have won only two games this season and have been beaten by a total of 157 points in the past two weeks.

Regardless of the team's final position at the end of the year, the plan will go ahead.

A club source said: "I assume it's going to happen between now and the end of the year, in the next month or so.

"It will be regarding policies about drafting and trading, expectations on the playing group and also on the coaching group. A plan needs to take place to make us more competitive in 2006."

President Ian Collins spoke to the playing group before last week's match against St Kilda, imploring the players to put in a better effort and warning that careers were on the line.

Collins also addressed the staff and directors, pointing to the club's proud tradition.

"There will be a complete review of all the players, but not until the last game or near the last game," the source said.

"The thing that saddens me is when you see Carlton supporters leaving. On the television, you could see supporters leaving and they looked pretty disgruntled. That's not a good look.

"If they leave like that, you wonder whether they're going to come back next week."

The new committee is believed to comprise Collins, chief executive Michael Malouf, board member David McKay, football manager Grant Williams and coach Denis Pagan.

"We keep talking about the draft choices, but we've just got to continue and put in place a strategy to get ourselves out of it," the source said.

"We thought we were better than we actually ended up being. There was a bit of false promise in the place (after) winning the Wizard Cup. It raised everyone's expectations.

"I think everyone -- board, management and coaches -- are disappointed with the year because we did expect so much more."

The plan should just be get Marc Murphy and Hurn/Ellis,trade Lance, etc who don't want to pull their weight or take a paycut, and put another storey on Patrick Smith's house as Kaptain Kouta suggested.

About time some one noticed this.

It's simply that we are completely uncompeteitive. I'm not saying we have to win, but why watch such rubbish. I agree with the club (but think they were a bit slow) that they risk losing all of the members that came out of the woodwork and became paid up oiver the last few years. As long as we were building, it was ok. We have however, not even been trying.

Better get on with it, and quick.

First part of the plan is to not win any games for the reminder of the year

Interesting comments. He didn't exactly say they were happy to play for picks, but you get the feeling the club's already pencilled them in. Perhaps the board is more realistic about certain players than we give them credit for.

Worth the risk. A power forward to go with the leading types of Waite/Fisher/Fev. Lets hope when Riewodlt comes back he goes back to his 10 possessions/10 hit outs a game he has done for the last few years. Then he might be convinced he has to leave to be a champion.
