CARLTON produced its best performance of the AFL season to record its first win in 12 matches and send Richmond's finals hopes nose-diving at Telstra Dome today.

The Blues blitzed the Tigers in the opening term and controlled the match from then on to cruise to victory 22.9 (141) to 16.10 (106).

Richmond would have been in the top eight had it won, but will now face a tough task to make the finals.

Nick Stevens, Anthony Koutoufides and Heath Scotland led the way with superb performances in the midfield.

Stevens complemented his good work through the middle of the ground with four goals, two of them delightful goals on the run from 50 metres. :)

Isn't it nice to avenge the defeat earlier in year which started our decline and especially nice given the harsh remarks of Terry Wallace during the week about the Club not having any hope for at least 5-6 years!

yep, very strange from an opposition coach.

It is a little hard to argue against Wallace's comment...even if that is a strange comment from an opposition coach.

At the end of the day, we're not exactly a fantastic side. If we were, we wouldn't be sitting at the bottom of the ladder. Just because we've won this one game against Richmond, it does not mean that we're going to march into next years grand final.

I'll be happy if we can play off in the finals within the next 5 years.

Android,

I would have thought that the state of the club is something that goes without saying, but coming from a Richmond coach it was a bit rich. I don't think Terry would have appreciated those comments about his club and his club has an equally tough task of rebuilding. They have won 9 games for the year which is one game less than we won last year. As the learned and highly esteemed Guru Bob used to say ... "people in glasshouses don't need windows, you think about that!"
