Something to do with: Quote: But to avoid paying the back taxes, the Blues will have to prove money generated from their social club at Optus Oval was not for profit but was for community use by way of maintaining and improving their former home ground.

Sounds like a Big Jack loophole to me... Seriously.. just wind up the Social Club and get rid of it... and give the ATO nothing!!!!! Its not like we need a social club anymore.. we can easily restructure through the footy board. They have indemnity cover anyway.... |

Good point Synbad, just wind it up. As with the other Melbourne based clubs just operate a social club and gaming interests directly under the umbrella of the footy club. Whilst not a core business they are successful ventures and would not compromise the viability of the footy club and would be definitely tax exempt. I still believe given the uncertainty of the tax ruling on structures such as this (this goes back as far as 1997) the club was derelict in its duty by not budgeting and accruing for this possible expense and setting aside reserves to meet any obligations that might arise if a ruling such as this eventuated. This would've been the appropriate, prudent course of action to take. |
