Pros: Very encouraging performance, especially the forward efficiency. TDK, Cerra and Kemp very good. Delighted with Haynes, SOJ, Fantasia, Cottrell and Campo. Another good game from Motlop and Lord. Cons: Acres must have kicked it out on the full 4 or 5 times. Docherty not much better until that late goal. In fact from what I've seen in the 2 games, he wouldn't be in my team against Richmond. I'd much rather play Carroll. Would have liked to see Evans touch the ball before the final 5 minutes. I assume something disciplinary is going on with Elijah. Strange to see him only get a quarter the last 2 weeks. He's looked really good when on the ground. Another game where the opposition got a whole lot more frees. |

Finally watched the game, liked our hussle especially in Q1. But really GWS played Iike they didn't give a toss I thought. Cowan & tdk both both put in strong showings Lord seemed a bit quiet early but worked into it after HT McGovern didn't look in agony so probably not an Achilles? Haven't seen stats but free kicks felt like 2:1 against for the second week in a row Sent from my moto g54 5G using Tapatalk |

Pros - Fantasia. Wound back the clock and was really intent and imposing himself - Campo is a beauty. Composed and calm. And doesnt like to be beaten - TDK. Wowee!! Geez hope we sign him and quick - Cerra was very good - Carrol. He needs to stay in the side. Im convinced - Cowan. Sign him for 10 years please before Tassie come talking - Kemp, needs to be a permanent 3rd tall in the forward line. Dont know why everyone is saying we cant play Curnow, Harry and he there. He is the springy forward we need in there. I like him, can be the swing man and always gives 100% - JSOS was good down back. Doesnt panick and reads the game well. However we need to pick his battles. He wont be able to play on the quicker forwards Negatives - Acres. For an experienced guy, missing goals and smirking. All the OOF. I dont like that - Docherty isn’t an auto best 22, and I hope we can make the right call and recognise a younger guy that is playing better - Evans. I dont get why we picked him. Again we needed an insurance tall on the rookie list. He has been on the 3 lists now. Got beaten on many one on ones. - Motlop. Doesnt do enough. Has no awareness when he is trying to burst through a pack. He is not quick and needs to know his limitations. I hope Voss doesnt get sucked in by names and if they are not best 22 then they need to come out of the team ie Docherty, Acres. I love Acres but those blind kicks around the boundary that end up OOF do my head in and he needs to get that out of his game. And i dont care what anyone says, but Young offers more than Pitto. Yes i said it, would rather him in there team as at least he can play ruck, back or take a mark in the forward line. He may be a bit of a Gumby, but Pitto does nothing and has no mobility whatsoever. Was really pleased with this output since last weeks debacle. |

Overall I was most happy with our team defence. TDK was v good. Cerra back to how he was in 2023. JSOS looked v comfortable down back. And Kemp was good - will be interesting when Charlie and Harry are there too. Lucas was great - I think the twins might be a bit of a surprise packet this year. However, these pre-season games tend to lack real defensive pressure so I take our performance with a grain of salt. McGovern - I was pretty sure I saw him reaching for his hammy so I’m not sure I’m buying the ankle injury thing just yet. We’ll know if he does/doesn’t run out against the Tigers. |

Loved the game. Plenty of inexperienced players getting opportunities and it was good to see our forward line still scoring without Charlie, and Harry sitting out a lot of the game. Great to see Cerra and Fantasia getting through their allocated time without injury. Both will be huge contributors if they can stay healthy. Backline held up well. We already know but TDK is a gun. His ruck work is good but he follow up work is superb. He's another elite midfielder when the ball hits the ground. Another very good game from George. Loved the smothers and defensive stuff from Kemp. My only negatives? Cripps needs to handle the situation better when he's being taken out of the game. Giving away numerous free kicks and continually sooking to the umpires isn't the example you want from your captain. You can't preach sacrifice, team and unity when you're carrying on like that. Shut up and contribute in other ways. Block for your team mates. Create 2 on 1's. It's a team game and team success is all that matters. The umpires will never give us a fair go when your captain is carrying on like that. The other negative? Hamill's press conference. If the club is going to put the assistant coaches up, tell them to stop feeding bullshit to the supporters. Attempting to tell us McGovern was on managed minutes and giving the impression him coming off was part of the plan. The bloke copped an injury. It may be minor but don't treat us as idiots. You're not in the CIA mate. |

GWS team was stacked only really missing Tom Green. They didn't play Briggs although he was kitted up and they are not the same team without him. Cerra was good despite on 54% game time. Should easily account for Richmond and then the fun starts. Big fan of Cotrell he should have had 3 goals Cowan looks like he could be a serious player but drifted out a bit late. Kemp could make it as a forward it will be interesting to see what happens when Charlie returns Sent from my SM-F926B using Tapatalk |

I haven’t seen replay. Still in beautiful Canberra. I look forward to watching replay but…. 2 teams at it, with 2 differing styles. One a contested animal, us, and GWS a run and gun. They were trying to win, and snipe where they could. Dirty pricks. What pick was Lucas Camporeale? And Ben is even better? Steal. Played like a first rounder. His body looks AFL ready and quick. Played a defensive wing role. Bloody good kick. He’s already broken into my team My boy Matt Carrol I was lucky to train with the Sandringham squad as a young man and always follow the TAC team. The football factory. Couldn’t believe he was such a late pick a couple years ago. Glad we didn’t lose him. He’s got everything albeit heavily left sided. Speed, Smarts, courage, tackles, side step, and kicks through the ball. He’s made his mark over last 2 praccy I’ve seen live. I doubt you heard it on TV, but the crowd was giving it to the umpires. They were disgracefully bias. Trying to build GWS interest? When a free wasn’t paid to GWS umpires were reminded they missed another chance. You must have seen how many times TDK was targeted, Cerra held, Cripps held…without the ball, only to have frees against him. He was spooking. He was asking th3 question. It’s within the laws. If he was spooking, he would’ve been given a 50m penalty for decent. Only the capatain can talk to umpires. Good on him. Did the same at times last year and still won a record number of Brownlow votes Best and Fairest, I can understand why the captain felt he had to ask for fairness to the umpires in the 2nd half. Silvagni is not slow. All quich forwards find opportunities to run free from KPDs. Happens to Weitering on a weekly basis. He is slow we than SOS.. Hewett continues to be Hewett. Cerra all class and stronger Haines is the organiser down back. Fk he’s quick. He’s still got IT. Never doubted his athletic and football ability The wind was strong, like it was at Ikon v Saints. Across the ground, hence ball mainly on one side, and GUSTY. You don’t see that on TV. The easy shot Kemp missed early, he over compensated at same time wind eased. He didn’t adjust. Standard of footy was great considering conditions. |

Great day. Go connected to the NSW/ACT Supporters group who did a pre-match function at Eastlake Football Club. For $10, I got a CFC Key ring, entry into the function, which included a heap of food platters as well as meeting Shane O'Sullivan and having Aaron Hamill and Dennis Armfield both speak! I thought both Aaron and Dennis spoke well. Dennis looks so much younger than 38 I think? Alot taller than I thought as well. Thats pretty good access and great that the Supporters group was able to organise it for "little old Canberra". Also, during the function, we were gifted tickets for seating behind the goals. We became the "substitute" cheer squad, which was awesome. I "almost" got a mark from a kick at goal, but didn't want to drop my beer!! Game observations: Loved Lucas game - he seemed everywhere, decent speed, good disposer, and tough. Whats not to like? I think he should be a lock to play round 1 TDK was sensational - I agree with Blue Vain - he is literally another midfielder. The way he follows up and impacts is something to behold. Just sign him already! Pleasantly surprised by Kemps game - dangerous and effective up forward. JSOS - very solid down back and looks the goods there. Loved Cerras goal from the centre square (not sure he meant it, but who cares!) Most disappointing players: Motlop - after last weeks good game, he was nowhere. Seemed to retract into his bad habits of not presenting front and centre, not providing pressure, no commitment to the play in general. An extremely disappointing display. Yes it was a scratch match, but you still have to show up.... Acres - was like every time he kicked it went OOF. Basically had zero impact. Got caught with the ball ALOT. Needs to lift.... Eljah - not so much dissappointing but curious as to what is going on with the rumoured "disciplinary issue/s". When he did come on he looked pretty good... |

The new interpretation on kick distance for a mark to be paid certainly is something. Better than 8m kicks being paid though. |

Cripps was getting scragged all day and seemed to spend the third qtr at CHF, leaving our third qtr midfield as Lord, Fog, and two other non-first pick mids at times in the third, not even Cerra or George were in at centre bounds in the third, and they did pretty well agains a GWS midfield that is class, including Toby Green cycling through there at times to try and get him into the game. was unimpressive seeing Cottrell and Acres competing for an apparent side bet on who could kick the most OOF each quarter. Ugly and if it was a game for premiership points the 10 or so shots at goal which went OFF could easily have come back to bite us. don't want to see that kind of work in practice games from anybody. Lots to like but a few frustrating things. Motlop shouldn't try out his Dusty Martin impersonations if he doesn't have the power, speed or skill to do it. even in circumstances where he doesn't have an easy handball or kick to advantage, he needs to do something other than getting dragged down and pinged for HTB. not a good look for a small forward who doesn't get much of it. only 4 score involvements, Lucas Camporeale had four SIs from the wing. Elijah made 4 in one quarter! Having said that Mots did give a couple of goal assists once removed. no official assists in stats but thought he gave at least one handball for goal. All the talk was he was blowing everybody away at training, not seeing it yet, he's very young, I'm sure it will come for him. Speaking of of young and speaking of Lucas Camporeale — something to behold. Leading CFC Fantasy Stats player (88) on the day is pretty impressive for a kid's second run against AFL level opposition and picked 11 picks later than your brother in the draft. And speaking of AF points our top five — who would have predicted this last year? Lucas Camporeale 88 George Hewett 86 Nick Haynes 83 Cooper Lord 81 Oliver Hollands 81 Weiters, Kemp, JSOS, Haynes, Gov and Harry all look like authoritative KP players in their natural positions. Never felt like we were settled in that dept last few years, which I think is part of what fuels the ongoing agonising analysis from some about the "ruck debate", Lewis Young etc etc. Kemp leads and marks much better than JSOS. JSOS hustles better than Kemp, swapping them seems obvious in hindsight. Lots of healthy indicators, other than on going injury curse at Ikon Park. |
