I have been feeling a tad depressed with the goings on at Carlton recently. Anyway, i was looking through some of my Carlton momentos and came across this photo. I hope it comes out on this site.... it may be a bit blurry - but this is the 1944 team... i think.

This picture sums up for me why i will remain a Carlton supporter - look at Jack Wrout. (Far right - leaning forward) middle row.

Has there ever been a tougher looking footballer? - well...yes, it is the bloke standing behind him - Bob Chitty. But other than him, there are few that could match Wrout.

These guys and hundreds others - john nicholls, kernahan.. and the supporters in the background of this photo... all the supporters from the 60's/70's etc..we owe them to keep supporting.

It is our legacy to pass on. I think we have a duty to all the players and supporters in this photo- as the Carlton Footy club meant something to them. I feel the legacy of Carlton should be carried across generations. It shouldn't be something we pick up and discard... this club is bigger than that. I hope that we all continue our membership next year if not for yourself -at least for these players who played for the club cause they loved it.

Players I recognise in the photo: (which i think was taken in 44...as it was Jack Wrout's last year as a blue)

Jack Howell - far left top row - premiership player 1947

Arthur Sanger - far left front row (not 100% sure about this one) - premiership player 1945

J. Wrout - far right middle row - centre half forward champion - premiership player 1938

Bob Green - 4 from left middle row - premiership player 1938 - 19 kicks in the 38 grand final.

Jim Clark - far right top row - premiership player 1945 and 1947

Rod McLean - 6 from left - back row - 1938 and 1945 premiership player

Jim Mooring - far left - standing... 45 premiership player.

Great post tap!!

I love looking at the photos of our premiership teams. Not sure whether it is imaginary or not but it feels like you can see the steely determination and character of the players in their eyes. Most of our premiership players look as tough as nails.

Bob Chitty, only if we had that type of player these days instead of soft guys always making themselves pretty for the cameras instead of playing football.

For someone who has a family connection with a legend of the club from that era, I can only dream that todays players wore the jumper in a similar fashion to those 60 years back.

Oh the times they are a changin'...

The reason why i posted this picture was that Sydney Blue's post got me down. It made me realise that I had to look at the legacy of this club - the bigger picture.

Sydney Blue - it was a good post.... but it is a shame that your kids have decided to support other clubs.

Sydney Blue's post was.......

He has got a bit of cheek this Mr Malouf asking the fans to pay back Carlton. I think the fans have stood by pretty well over the last 4 years and put up with a lot from this board -2 wooden spoons?? - loss of home ground - massive fines - loss of draft picks - delisting 31 players 19 wins out of 82 games. I think it might be time the Administrators - Players and Coaches start repaying the fans . I know my two kids are old enough to know that they dont want to follow a side that is continually shit and they now follow the Swans and Saints and they dont even have to go to school and cop it from their friends like they do in Melbourne . Keep up the performaces that we have been seeing lately and I bet they won't be the only kids supporting other sides. The 16000 that turned up to the G on the weekend is only the beginning .

Sorry Tap didn't mean to get you to upset .

But try as hard as I can I just cant convince them to follow the Blues. I have got one left and have plenty of time to work with and hopefully by the time she is old enough to understand the Blues will be back up there winning again and the other two will see their error and return.

By the way I only started following Carlton because my older brother threaten to beat the crap out of me if I didnt. I was only 5 at the time . Since then I have been a Carlton follower through and through and wouldn't have it any other way

Go The Blues

Sydney Blue, I understand. Kids at that age want to support "winners"... and i guess Carlton hasn't been doing too much of that recently.

Have you got the book - Carlton- The 100 Greatest? I suggest you buy that for one of your young tackers for Christmas. That may get them back on track.

I only supported Carlton cause my family members supported the Blues.

Sounded like my rite of passage wasn't as difficult as yours with your brother.
