Lot of talk that we are worse than Fitzroy's last ever team and wouldn't even beat the Hawks reserves from the 80s.This was Fitzroy's last team and would we beat this team? The way football has improved in 10 years I couldn't see this team beating us despite our brilliance. 8)

I reckon we'd beat them...but I'm only saying that because you didn't name the great Andrew Cavedon

Yeah, they only played three on the bench back then so we'd have an extra player running around.

We'd have no chance. Why? The greatness of Jarrod Molloy just cripples us. Shane Clayton and Rowan Warfe are just icing on the Fitzroy cake.

Many of those guys went on to play out very good careers and some are still going. At the time they were a bunch of inexperienced kids, with a few old-time past-its.

I don't see any parallels at all actually.... 8)

Carlton's own Peter Doyle there on the bench - injuries really knocked that bloke around. Some will remember him as a long serving member of the Princes Park ground staff.

As individuals, there are some handy-ish players there - as a unit it lacks class though. Much like us, who somehow equal less than the sum of our parts.

Another to look at it - the 3 of them still playing AFL, would get a go in our side no problems:
1. Primus would be no 1 ruckman and probably captain
2. Johnson would be a very handy on-baller - hell why not even throw him in the BP
3. and Pikey? - why not - at least we'd have a bit of mongrel

I met John Rombotis a couple of years ago. Went on to become a Real Estate Agent in Elwood. If I can recall, his career was killed by being played by St Kilda wilst injured. Some things never change.

And John Barker as our Full Forward

We'd probably beat that Fitzroy team, but based on comparative performances of the time - there's not a lot that differs between the two teams.....we are indeed the new Fitzroy.

Fitzroy's percentage was 49% that year for one win.

I think we are not that bad as yet.

True, but we're working on it.
