I got a six pack of coldies, some Bundy&coke cans, a big bag of Doritos and a comfy couch to watch the Ashes tonight.

...and yeah I think Stevo had a crack today.

Eddie Betts lighting up the MCG once again.
Fisher! The pack marks and the straight shooting. Love it.
Simmo plays another great game.
Carrots damaging as always and even spent a bit of time up forward which was interesting.
Fev having a crack in the second half.
The return of Barney.
Stevens busting a gut.

Eddie Betts did well and the shagless one looked more keen as did Stevens...

Heath Scotland performed well..knows he is under the pump and has responded, ran hard and worked harder to get the footy...

Fisher - A-grade talent. His mark against three opponents in the first half and his last goal, plus efforts all day.

Carrazzo - started well went a bit quiet but no clangers today. on the improve.

Simpson - compare Kade's hard ball gets and good disposal under pressure compared to Campo's soft ball gets & poor disposal under minimal pressure and you've got the answer to why we are where we are. Kade was similiar to Carrazzo started well then went a bit quiet, before coming back in the last quarter.

Sporn - thought his career was gone but played well running off into space today and can deliver the ball. Encouraging, hope he can continue to improve the rest of the year.

Waite gets plenty of the ball but is like a robot that doesn't quite perfect the craft, could be anything in the future if the things that don't quite work begin to come off.

Betts sneaked a few but struggles in heavy traffic as the game goes on, will have to build up his body, Longmuir competed well but B- results at best.

Whitnall - smartest footballer in the AFL, but can't run to dominate a game. Without Lance some weeks we'd be hopeless. Trade bait if you want to go the road of being last for a couple of years and taking the best talent. Without him some weeks we would be even further thoroughly uncompetitive.

Stevens - endeavour and more hard ball gets, seemed fitter today and back near his best, although disposal was on occassion pathetic, at least he got the bloody thing.

Campo, Lappin and Kouta offered minimal leadership today, it's a positive that our kids can compete when these senior players show so little leadership. Kouta can't run anymore and doesn't use his initiative to lead the team, looks like his lost the real endeavour to compete. Lappo looks like he's not sure he wants to be there & Campo tires his best but really is it good enough, of course wouldn't be bad in a good team where the pressure is off.

Brendan applied himself today, can only get his confidence back, really cares about his football.

We can only try to be competive for the rest of the year, the realisation of where we are out seemed pretty obvious to Pagan in his press Conference. Considering the five quality players Hawthorn were missing on the day, you'd have to say we can't consider a four goal loss a positive result.

We are now 6 points from 15th which means that we can beat one of Collingwood or Essendon* without losing the number one pick. That's a positive, isn't it?

I've got a big packet of salt & vinegar chips, a box of pizza, and enough Carlton Cold's to keep me going through hopefully half an innings or so.

And I managed to buy enough basic tools for the apprenticeship I'm starting on Monday, missing the footy in the process.

Oh, and I bought my first car today. :D

As Swan McKay said on the radio before the game "There'll be no loser in today's game".

Betts did well doing exactly what you'd ask of a forward pocket.
Fisher took a couple of nice grabs showing he'll be a star.
Stevens ran his guts out.
Whitnall did a pretty good job down back cutting off passes and basically directing traffic in our back half.
Simpson showed that he's going to be a long term player yet again.
Carazzo was solid and broke tackles as he's been doing for the last few weeks. He never seems to panic, and his possessions are usually effective.
Scotland was good again, seems to have found form.
Longmuir presented as a target up forward, and brought the ball to ground if he wasn;t able to hang onto the grab. If Longmuir and Betts chip in with 4-5 between them each week I say they've done their job.

I spent time after this match showing my young son the 2005 draft picks that we might pick up. I told my six year old that maybe two of these players will be the ones that will be his heroes in navy blue in years to come, and that he will grow up seeing these players mature onto new stars for Carlton. As Doull, Ashman Mackay and Jezza were for me, They will be the icons of his youth. Thats the big positive for me today.

I think Synbad said something along the lines that the point at which an alcoholic realises that he has a very bad problem and that he/she alone has to do something about it is just as much a critical point as all of the positives that one might get from a new and exciting team coming together.

Well, I think that todays game was a clear realisation point for this club.

Once we all see and accept how bad we really are, we can start to get better.

In a way, Im glad that we lost and because that reality check is something that is badly needed to be rammed home.

OK there were some good individual performances and there is something to salvage from the train wreck of 2005, but we are nowhere near as good enough as we need to be.

Positives are only useful in terms of players that might be traded or might be considered for 2006 and beyind.

Theres nothing left to do now except maybe fluke a win for some kind of pride, whatever that is, and then talk about all the hard descisions that need to be made.

Denial is pointless, theres nowhere to hide now, its all on display for all to see.

As horrible as it is to accept, it is probably the best thing that has happened to this club for quite some time. A truly cathartic experience

We're probably going to finish last now and get the first pick in the draft and the first crack at an un-contracted player.

Cheers tommi and PJ. Not too impressed about it being an auto, but I'll live. We managed to get it down to just under 4 and a half thousand dollars too :D

We won what ? early draft pricks dont guarantee success in life, it give you a better rate of getting someone better than lower picks, but it hasn't always worked that way. Afl footballers go to win games for the club and supporters not tank games to get picks, i dont want players in my club in my club if they dont try, same as no one wants someone working for them if they never arrive or do any work.

I ventured out there today too and can report:

+Lance – I'd love to keep him because he's the only one of the senior bunch that shows any leadership. Plus he's got the footy smarts.
+Fev – hampered by groin injury but kept at it.
+Fisher – great to have him back.
+Eddie Betts – bursts of action.
+Stevo - injured (moved well but I suspect he's lost his "pre-season" base) but tried hard. Boy this bloke puts in.
+Sporn - was pleased with his endeavor today.
+Longmuir – wasn't too sure about this bloke, but he does present and works well with Fev & Fisher.
Walker - injured (knee) and if picked needs to start on the ground.
Kouta - game over. Time to retire.
-Campo – so soft, so very much time to move on.

I was actually happy to see Lance give Houla a spray after THAT incident. Thought it showed for the first time in a while that Lance gives a shit. The fish is a breath of fresh air, as is Waitey. Carrots goes ok.

Our young guys are trying their best to drag us out of the mire. Once we get rid of some ballast, and add some talent (Kosi, Bartel and Murphy  ) things will be a lot sweeter.

I haven't seen a TV replay, what's "THAT" incident?
