Here's one out of left field for you. I'd like to put my backing behind Waite to be the next captain. He's going to be there if/when Carlton are a premiership contender again. His best footy is ahead of him and already he's not doing badly. He seems to be a a favourite with the media already when they talk about Carlton's future. He has a lot of tradition already in his roots. And more than anything, he shows some great agro out on the pitch. He appears to me to be the kind of player who'd put his body on the line and risk himself for to win the ball. I think he's someone who could inspire a team behind him. I think this is the most important aspect of leadership. So there's my 2 cents. What better way to stamp the future of Carlton then to begin with someone young who obviously loves the club. |

I reckon we're really struggling when it comes to candidates for captaincy. Most people would say Stevens but personally I don't really think he's captaincy material... |

Yep, I know what you mean. I quite like the idea of a young captain, and lets face it we may have no other choice, but in reality a yougn captain a la Kernhan just wouldn't have the senior infrastructure around him to make the task a bit easier. Having said that, I can see Jarrad being a great captain one day, in the mould of Riccuito. But when that one day is I'm not so sure yet... |

Not ready, he still needs to focus on his game and has plenty to learn. Waite is still two years away from playing his best football. No doubt great young player coming through the ranks. One of our better prospects. |

Life is about taking risks. Carlton took a risk when they appointed Sticks as Captain. It may not look like it now but back then it still was a risk. The club should have some balls and stop going for the safe options. If it works, the upside is huge. |

its way to early to make such a call like that. The boy shows some promise he is my favourite player and i admire the way he plays especially the peformance he put in after his old man passed away |

I will have to take issue there, but you couldn't call Sticks a VFL gun after his first season of VFL in 1986, by his own admission he was still to skinny and not strong enough. To his credit he worked extremely hard over the 86/87 pre-season and together with the responsibility of the captaincy turned out to be the gun we all know and love. And before anyone jumps down my throat he was a SANFL gun in 1985. |

In 1984 and most of them were on Bruce Doull. But that still doesn't make him a gun VFL player on the back of his debut 1986 VFL season. ![]() |

Isn't Marc Murphy meant to be our saviour? If so why not make him captain? |
