just got a phone call from a friend who works at KPMG (carlton connection) he said Lance wanted to re-sign but his management have told him to to hold out cause offers are flying in from every where. Lance will not move interstate as his partner does not want to move leaving Melbourne, Geelong, Bulldogs and Hawks as his options.

Also several players have voiced there concerns over the hole Matty Lappin Saga and apparently Kouta and Stevo are not with the way he is being treated and voiced there concerns to Sticks who said he understands but he as to follow orders from the boss

Can't argue with any on the players there.
As said, some have been treated really bad by the club.
Sorry but them the facts.

The players want him to have a 3 year deal? or are they upset at some other aspect of the contract negotiations?

Another quality post there Surrey....

For the record what do YOU think Whitnall,Campo and Lappin should be..

1)paid?

2) Length of contract?

When you have finished that please inform us just what basis you have for saying the players have been treated badly?

Here's an idea. Let's have the players call the shots at the club. That way they can do what's best for themselves, as any employee would do.

Or... not.

I think Lance is a supreme athlete and someone who leads by example. His team obey everything he asks and I hope he stays........................we're talking about Lance Armstrong, right? :?

Yet another example of our incompetant leadership and incompetent board. We need change at the top. I have no problem if we decide to trade Matty, but you execute it well - you do not put offers on the table and then withdraw. We look like fools and we piss off the players we want to be on-side.

Zag, if you care to listen or even bother reading my posts you would know this answer by now. Hint: It's way things are being done that is what is wrong.

i've got an idea.

We sign Lappin on a three year contract.  Yes thats right , the first 2 years are at market price this being approx 250-350k and the third year we pay him base plus incentives, say 75k plus whatever he does. Sort of like a frontloaded type contract.

After all Matty wants a three year contract not money. So give him the three years. ( although i wouldn't )

As for lance i don't think the decision is with lance its more so what the club think, he may be baitworthy , and in order to get some fish you need good bait. Unlucky Lance.

Campo, where is he going, lets stop believing what we read and hear form people outside the loop. Seriously who would take him and what do you think it would do for his own personal crediibility.
He'll sign on reduced figures and next season he'll be earning an appropriate amount for the output he gives. Maybe then he 'll become a favourite again and not cop the type of critism we should direct at his mate Hamill.

Guys the club needs to move forward, we need to let go of somethings and move forward, otherwise we might as well have stayed at Optus and left Big John in charge.

Oh well another opinion from TB...

I dont understand Surrey.
Your above post states "thems the facts", then you base your opinions on heresay.
The above comment was made public by Daniel Harford who promptly retracted it.
You say you cant argue with any of the players, what are the players apparently pissed off about?
The fact that Carlton no longer compensate their players more than the other 15 clubs?

I'm sure the players were quite comfortable the way contracts were handled when Jack paid in paper bags and the club bowed to there every whim.
Guess what? We've won 2 games and sit clearly on the bottom.
Perhaps the senior players should worry about earning what THEY are getting paid instead of worrying about Lappo falling off the gravy train.

I guess it depends on your definition of bad. Personally, I'd call it a heavy dose of reality that guys like Campo and Lance are facing. I certainly don't wish them any ill feelings, but we just cannot pay them the high wages we have in the past. Maybe the club could handle things better, but they're in the best position to make the required judgements, if they stuff up they will be held accountable. I do believe the club needs to make a stand, and while that may cost us some casualties I think the longer term benefits will outweigh the short term negatives.

BV you cannot treat people like that. This isn't the first time Collo has opted to take the contract off the table at the last minute.

I want Lappin, Campo & Whitnall to stay. I want them to sign at an affordable figure of around 300k as i believe that to be a good deal for all, but the reality is some might get a better deal elsewhere, some cannot work under Pagan and some might not have an option and stay.

No Problems, but lets get this shit out of the media and stop turning our club into a circus, treat our current players better and get on with restoring the club.

I can only wonder what other players even contemplating coming to Carlton are thinking after reading some of this stuff, let alone talking to some of our players.

I agree with you Surrey but who do you think we really need to blame for the media exposure ?? Player managers. They are only really doing what they can to line there own pockets. Honestly people say Real Estate Agents and car salesman have reputations.

I still belive Lappin and Campo will sign on and the only way lance will be walking will be for a first rounder plus player. Its all shite now , but it will change. :D

Surrey, as seen in the Herald Sun yesterday, and posted here on the forum

Quote:
Carlton last night made it clear Lappin had at no stage agreed to a deal, only to have it withdrawn.

Former Blue Daniel Harford, who on the weekend slammed the club's treatment of Lappin, yesterday stressed there was never an offer ready to sign on the table.

In an interview on Triple M on Saturday night, Harford said he was astonished a deal was taken off the table. Harford said he thought Lappin would not be at the club next season.

Malouf yesterday contacted Harford.

"He's advised us the comments were misconstrued," Malouf said.

"He is not in any position to know exactly what is going on.

"Matthew is upset about the article.

"Our conversations and negotiations with him (Lappin) will remain confidential.

"It's disappointing to see that sort of information in a public forum.

"It's normal negotiation and argy-bargy – you may stop and start."
