If indeed we do hold on to Lance (and judging by radio talkback he seems to have some currency with opposition club supporters at least) what do people think of playing Lance in the middle.

Our game plan doesn't seem to suit him up forward and he can get with speed in the backline so could he make a go of it in the mid field or on-ball.

By a mid-fielder, I don't mean on the Judd/Cousins sense but play more a James Hird type role of a mid-field general using his brains and skill to set up forward moves.

He might have to be like James in not being accountable for an opponent as sides would run off him, but maybe he could really control the games for us by playing out of the middle. His bulk would also be good at centre bounces like Jonathon Brown.

Any thoughts

Sorry mate i can't see it happening, Lance IMO needs open spaces not stuck in traffic.

No way first thing they would do is put someone who could run off him and create havoc because Lance couldnt keep up with him

So i wouldnt think so Lance either needs to be traded or played closer to goal

A glacier could run away from Lance.

No, his best position is either creating a body-on-body contest at CHF or dropping back like he did last week and putting his body to use against opposition forwards. He took something like 11 marks but used his size to effect another 7 or 8 times.

I'd hate to lose him, but if he did go we need a key positon backman (Michael). Our forward line is getting better and our mids are slowly starting to kick goals.

Our backline needs to start repelling opposition attacks, the midfielders need to break and run with the ball, and most importantly, hit our forwards lace out.

I think the idea should have stayed in left-field.

I can see what you're thinking though, but as others said he'd be more exposed for lack of pace and wouldn't have the stamina.

My left-field idea was offering the 300k + Captaincy.

Lance will seriously step up if he's made the captain IMO.

It's a left-field idea and whilst I don't think Lance could play a midfield role as such, I don't know why we wouldn't perhaps try him around the stoppages or in for a few centre bounces to just get the ball going our way. He's a big body and I think he could win a few clearances for us...

Although I don't think we'll keep him, I don't mind the idea. You couldn't do it in a weak midfield, but in a strong midfield I reckon he might do alright. I actually think he's pretty good as an 'around-the-ground' ruckman (so long as he doesn't have to contest at centre bounces), where he can use his body strength and smarts and not have to chase around after a gazelle.
