Post subject: | Need a new recruiting Manager |
Our recruiting over the last few years has been hit and miss so i hope we dont stuff up this years draft because if we do we will pay for years to come Our Early picks have been shockers lately where our later picks in the draft have been pretty good except for Mick Martyn and alas the very talented Karl Norman but the equally frustrating Karl Norman So here is to our biggest day of the year and our future this years draft |

We got a new recruiting manager before last year's draft. How about doing a little research before calling for people's heads??? |

Only having a small staff is and will hamper our recruiting. Give the recruiters more resources particularly in staff. |

What a flower. Who is the recruiting manager SkyWalker? I assume that because you have Walker incorporated into your avatar and username that you consider him not to be a miss? Or am I misreading that? Please enlighten us. |

Hughes has only had one season to do his work and I think its a little bit harsh to bag him after one draft. The mistakes that I presume lead to this thread being started can be attributed to the previous recruiting manager/previous coaches and allied staff. I actually think Wayne Hughes did a reasonable job with what the picks he had but the real judgement will be made in about three years when Russell, Hartlett, Blackwell etc will need to have cemented regular spots and starting to be core players... Lets give both the recruiting manager and coach some time to prove their worth... |

People need to remember recruiting is a hit and miss business. Carlton have actually done pretty well at the bottom end - Houlihan, Fisher and Norman were all in the 70s. We can always hope that all our top picks go on to play 100 games but the reality is that for every McKay there will be a Vance, especially if you don't have access to the top 5 (we definitely do this year though!). This situation isn't just limited to Carlton but pretty much every team. The key is to keep your high picks intact and this will improve the odds of adding quality to the list in the long-term ... but is by no means a guarantee! Our biggest mistake was to trade away our first and second rounders for a number of years and then load up in one draft (the famous 4,11,16 of Livo, Sporn and Wiggins), which just happened to be the worst in living memory! There's no quick fix ... lets see what happens in 2-3 years before we judge the new recruiting guy. |

Also take into account that the recruiting manager makes the recommendations, but it is the coach and selection committee who make the final decisions. I think Carlton has a very astute team of recruiting gurus ATM. ![]() |

Poor guy didn't know O'Sullivan was removed from that position. No need to give him a bake, we all know he wasn't talking about the last couple of years. |

O'Sullivan has no problems selecting late in the draft - its just the early ones he has a little problem with. ![]() Although he does cop an unwarranted amount of criticism in my view because a lot of his selections were over ruled by the MC and David Parkin's "old body" philosophy. |
