Played great up back today and was interersted to hear the commentators indicating they thought this may well be where he finishes his career.

With Carrots looking the good in the centre and Scotland having the ball on a string all the time, why would you have campo anywhere near the midfield, and he clears well too - a beautiful kick has been his forte for years!

I'm come in and support Synbad here. I really don't think Synbads issue with Campo is his actually football ability, its the value for money that he offers at this stage of his career.

I'm sure ( ) Synbad would be quite happy to have Campo at Carlton on say 250k a year playing the way he did yesterday,. Synbads ( and other Campo bashers ) issue is that Campo is no longer worthy of earning mega bucks i.e over 350k

Synbad am i half right ??? :D :D

There are very very few people that disagree about that, what we all disagree about however is how much Campo should be criticised for it.

I'd agree with you, TB, but I disagree he shouldn't be criticised as harshly as he has been. Being a leader of a club who doesn't lead, a "superstar" who is up and down in consistency, an attitude which stinks a lot of the time all add up to the sort of player attitude we have to do our best to not have at Carlton. After all, look at Akermanis, a player who I compare Campo's skills to (IMO, if he concentrated on his game, not his tagger, he'd be every bit as good as Aker). Aker is on all of $300K. A triple premiership, Brownlow medallist.
Let's just see if Campo backs it up next week, and plays a quality game, not a 30-possession match all of which are useless possies in the back half.

In 2003, an article appeared in Crikey which said, amongst other things:

[i]In a stunning admission he decided a little self-congratulation was in order by explaining to the footy world how he managed to deceive his own club so he could better line his own pockets. But as this came at the certain disadvantage of others who have made salary sacrifices to play alongside him – what was he thinking?

It seems to have escaped “Ackerâ€

Campo was great yesterday.

Here's what i wrote on another site- "I'm so glad that Campo finally went to half back and gave Simmo his role. I don't know whehter it was Campo not wanting to give up his possy or Pagan waiting for the right time but it had to happen for the development of Simmo and now it's happened we looked the better for it. Campo 24 possies of half back, Simmo 18 possies in the guts and on the wing."

Campo deserves a 2 year contract, 250k the first year, 200k the second plus some extra benjamins if he performs.

If he takes it then awesome the clubs won, if he doesn't well then who gives a shit, noone really looses but Campo.

AH, from wjhere I was Campo appeared to be playing mainly in the back pocket vs Richmond, and indeed has been mainly at half back for the last four or five games. Simmo has been mainly on the wing in that time..

But on the subject, he and some of the other "leaders" actually looked like they wanted to do everythihng they could to win for a change. If they played like that consistently, we would not be having these discussions.

I think the problem is not how leaders like Campo react when things go well, but how they behave when it is not. I.e. arguing with the umps, body language etc. The good leaders in the AFL maintain their composure, lead and support the young players when the game is not going their way. This is the main issue with Campo.

Was Campo great because we won? From what I have seen he has played a similar role with similar stats for most of the year.

he was playing further back in defence and was hitting some targets rather than pissing about and putting himself and others under pressure.

Campo was put in the back pocket for a reason.
The reason is he is unnacountable in the midfield and by playing him in the back pocket he has to be accountable.

No coincidence that the midfield manufacted more without him ...

Id give Campo no more than 200k.. one year contract. If he does as he should he gets another one year contract.. same dosh!!!

Bentick had 8 effective tackles including 3 in 90 seconds in the second quarter that led to a goal for us.

thats would never have been the case if vica captain was in the guts..

I'd give him $0. Let him play in the backpocket for someone else

Campo has had better games in recent weeks.

This week he had 20 odd of the most unnacountable , cheap soft possies ever seen.

How does everyone rate the last 4 weeks of Campo?

I'm not trying to start a shit fight, but you would have to admit he has been pretty good.

Was the first to congratulate Simpson on a fine tackle in on the wing. Directed players in the defensive 50, all while doing a fine defensive job on Deledio, Pettifer and Krakouer . Seemed to be helping and encouraging the younger players. Even showed a little bit of l********. :?

For $150,000 for the year it's been a great 4 weeks.

For $150,000 for the 4 weeks, it was a shite 4 weeks.

Sums it up about so many of our older players doesn't it.

Whoever made up that crap about "you get what you pay for" certainly wasn't thinking of the CFC when they did it... :?

The only one he gets tick from me is the Ricmond game. In the other 3 games his leadership consisted of pointing to his man and hoping someone else would cover him.
