Over the past few weeks I have been scathing regarding the playing groups on field attitude and effort. I have also seriously questioned Pagans ability to extract the best from the playing group.

Well yesterday, the team put me firmly back in my box and I could not be happier. All of the things I have been praying to see, happened yesterday. The team played hard committed footy, they ran, they covered for each other, they backed themselves. In short they had a ‘crack.’ I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it.

This team can play good footy, bloody good footy. All they have to do is believe that they can.

Yesterday, I was proud of them and I was damn proud to be a Carlton supporter

Another F*4cking win is suicidal.
Beating an under strength Richmond was nice to break the losing run, but pointless long term.
Whether deliberate or not Wallace had a bad day at the helm for mine.
Simmo was NRS!!!

I still hope we win each week like you are meant to when you support a footy team.

I reckon we can win two or three more this season.

OK some of us are getting too carried away. We still need to finish bottom this year and qualify for the Pee Pee. Let's look at the season as a whole instead of just one game. One victory doesn't mean we stopped needing a huge talent injection all of a sudden! Pee Pee all the way!!!

Take Campo out of the midfield and play a guy who tackles and is accountable (Bentick) and youre not playing with two less through the midfield when you DONT have the ball.. just one.

Look Richmond had a 1/4 of their side out due to injury including their two most influential players.
Lets get things into perspective.

We wont be playing 9thmond ever week and we need a huge injection of talent but wasnt it good to have a win - players playing with a bit of passion - putting scoreboard pressure on a team for a change- the young guys fish bentick simpson carrazzo waite all playing valuable roles
Can I say if we had played like that last week against the scumsuckers we would have beat them easily
A good test against Port next week and whilst I always go wanting and expecting to win provided they give me a spirited competitive display and play to their talent then if we dont win then cant ask for more
However I dont think in terms of talent we are very far behind the carringbush and Essendon* so both these games are winnable so priority pick is at risk :!:

Well said. As I've said numerous times over the course of the season, the most frustrating thing has been the perceived lack of heart in some of our performances, the lack of commitment, determination, willingness to work hard etc. We may lack talent but you don't need talent to display these vital characteristics of decent footy side. I think we have underachieved this season and I'm disappointed by it, we may not be chockers with talent but we are better than this. One thing we are is very mentally fragile, i.e. the opposition gets a few quick goals and we melt like butter. Yesterday during the match I never really thought that we were safe until late on because I always worried that Richmond might kick 2 or 3 quick goals and the doubt would creep back in to the boys' heads. Thankfully we replied quickly every time or were able to stop the opposition getting a run on and they never really got close to us.

As you say our good footy is pretty damn good. I keep saying it but you can't go from winning the Wizard Cup, and in the process knocking off West Coast and then have a season like we're having unless something beyond a perceived lack of talent is at play. There is talent at this footy club, we need more talent, but don't believe the crap that we have almost none because we do have talent. The worst part about our season as you said is the fact that we're not necessarily losing games because of talent issues but because we don't believe we can win the games and do everything in our power to win, we aren't resilient enough, many of our problems are in the head.

Were a gun football side.
Talent is there... only a matter of time and the premiership will come our way.

I agree with you and BM BB2005.

Like you say you cant go from winning the wizzer to boiled lollies.

..... Wizzer proves were a great side.. just abit of tweaking required.....

Mate, don't become bitter and twisted.... I worry about you

For those who think we showed such "talent" and "pomise" yesterday, have a look at the replay and ask yourself how the Tigers could score 16 goals with the crap team they were fielding and the insipid, fumbling play they were showing. Have a look at the chipping around, have a look when they were 3 against one in the 50 and still made a meal of it, or missing set-shots from 25 meter straight in front etc. etc....

I was happy with the way we played and the reduced number of mistakes, the increased defensive pressure, better kicking on goal etc. but you have to put it into perspective....

We have still the worst list in the AFL and need to build from the bottom up.

Why can't you just show some semblance of happiness that we won just for a few days? No doubt you'll say "well I'm only being realistic" and that may be true but why not just try to just enjoy it for a week mikkey?

Of course we aren't a perfect footballing side because we won one game. Nobody said that we were. Our problems haven't gone away, we have the same amount of talent that we had before yesterday's game etc etc. I think most people realise that yesterday was only one win. People are happy because we haven't had anything to cheer about for 3 months. So what exactly is there to be put into perspective mikkey? Who's claiming that this is a turning point for the footy club? Who said that we're a good side? People just enjoy it when their side wins games of footy, that's what it's all about!

You can choose to focus on the negatives or the positives. We allowed Richmond 16 goals but the question should be why Richmond allowed Carlton 22 goals shouldn't it mikkey? Our defence has never been our strong point and yesterday remember Thornton who is our best defender wasn't playing. Why didn't you praise us for kicking 100+ points for the third week in a row? Sure we leak like a sieve but when you score 22 goals does it really matter? They missed a few easy goals. Like that's never happened before to us?

So we didn't show "talent" or "promise" yesterday? Gee I thought younger blokes like Simpson, Carrazzo, Waite, Fisher showed "talent" and "promise" and have been doing it not just in yesterday's win but in the many losses that preceded it mikkey...what about you?

As for Synbad well he has the most amazing interpretation skills, he really seems to encapsulate the exact point that other posters make in so few words...extraordinary!

club 29 you said you want to to win every game from here on end as a supporter? then you must be losing focus on the bigger picture . If your wish comes true, witch l hope it does not, l hope that makes you feel warm and fuzzy while knowning that it's been a waste of a season and to make things worse get nothing in the early draft selections. I hope that it makes you sleep better at nights having known we could miss out on picks 1 and 2 or 1 and 3 .

ahh yes let us sacrifice those who actually enjoy a win or three.

common sense will out and all that

see Synbad's army is doing an extraordinary job guarding the flanks from any lingering happiness.

Do you pay these blokes or what sailorman?
