It might be interesting to look at how much elite talent (draft-wise) Carlton has compared to other teams. The first column in the following table represents how many top 10 draft picks each team has on their list. The second column gives the average draft pick number of those top ten picks, i.e. Carlton has 3 which are picks 2, 4 and 9 which is an average of 5. This indicates how 'high' each clubs elite talent is plucked from the draft. The last column shows the average age of those top 10 draft picks. ![]() From a Carlton perspective we are obviously behind most other clubs with respect to the raw numbers of top 10 picks. However, on the bright side they have youth on their side. On the other hand if you look at St Kilda, they have 7 which is good, they are from the better half of the top 10 picks and at an average age of 22 they will all be hitting footy primetime in the next few years. Brisbane have 6 top 10's but with an average age of 28, the next few years should see Brisbane end up with very few top 10 picks. Collingwood has 8, but they are mostly from the 'bad' half of the top 10 and at 25 should already have shown their potential. Similar story with Essendon*. How do you guys interpret this? |

You look at the bottom 5... We are in the same group as WCE, Swans and Adelaide who are sitting up the top this year. Port won the flag last year..... It just comes down to the quality of these picks... |

Well I want average number of possies for each draft pick correlated with number of games and the post code of their family. Then I want you to do testing for 95% significance of the results. OK? ![]() |

OK? ![]() I already did all that, but then I spilt some champagne on the keyboard, and the computer is having 'Electric Dreams', and wet ones at that, it keeps yelling something about 'Marc .... Marc .... Marc'. |

It just comes down to the quality of these picks... Good pick up, did not see that. 3 of the top 5 teams have the least number of top 10's and 3 of the bottom 5 teams have the most number of top 10's. ![]() |

Yes it is getting late and I think some of us had a couple of drinks with our split personality which can not decide if a win was a loss and how to survive the next 4 weeks of "loose the PP" syndrome.... ![]() |

You either (a) have to much time on your hands, or (b) are trying to invent statistics that make us look better than we really are. ![]() |

very interesting jarusa - thank you if you use St Kilda as the benchmark and assume they will finish top 4 in the next 2 years, we could be in a similar position to them in 2 years time if we continue to to finish bottom 3 or 4 in 2006. 2007 we will have 7 picks in top 10 with average of approx pick 3.6 at an average of 22. so, if the selectors get it right, the talent is available....who knows! by the way whi is marc murphy? ![]() well done Jarusa and good luck hughsey |

My spin on this is that Carlton will play the Western Bulldogs in our next AFL Grand Final appearance. Brisbane Collingwood and Essendon* will be at the bottom of the table and St Kilda will be the on the decline. They will be referred and Compared to the Geelong of the Nineties and will be labelled the Buttered Saints cause they will be that easy to spread and roll. Oh did i mention to you how much i hate St Kilda, SOOOOOOO FN MUCH !!! and not because of Aaron .. ![]() |

Agree with Tractor Boy. It probably will be exatly like that. The Bulldogs have so much talent on there list as soon as they get a few decent tals to fix up there spine they will be pretty awesome. I dont reckon were as bad as some of you think. Kids like Simmo, Bentick, Walker, Waite, Fisher the O'Hailpins, Fish and whoever we draft and a few that I have missed all have talent and are good building blocks for us to start our LOONG climb up the ladder to Premeirship success |

We also had Massie , Vance and Angwin on our list. None of whom would be above 30. They were just no good for different reasons. |
