You all know it.

It's that generic footy forum where every &^%$head known to man (and a rare few knowledgable people) gather to bash heads together, insult each other, spread malicious rumours, show how utterly bereft of decent or original thoughts they are.

You guys seem intent on taking TalkingCarlton down that pathway.

When you all joined Talking Carlton you should have read these: Posting Guidelines

Quote:
Nothing too fancy, just a few rooms for all Carlton supporters to meet and have a chat. We hope that everyone who visits this site has a good time, has a great discussion, picks up some good info, maybe meets some new friends.

Sounds good, doesn’t it? But I can’t see for the life of me where it says you have free rein to be insulting to someone else’s idea.

Disagree, hell yeah. There’s bound to be a lot of that going around. But why on earth can’t you disagree with a poster’s ideas without resorting to “that’s crap!â€

This is what I envisaged with my "picking my nose" thread.
I just didnt succinct it as well as you Mrs Caz.

We need to remember this is a football site and because someone has a different opinion, it doesnt make them wrong.

(unless they disagree with ME!)

BTW, how do you do that multi quote thing?
Not that I'm cyber challenged or anything.

How could anyone disagree with you BV?

The quote thingy is easy...just copy your quote:

BV is a handsome man

then put
Quote:
at the front and [../quote] at the end (without the full stops, had to put them in or it ruins the explanation and actually just posts another quote  ) and you will have

Quote:
BV is a handsome man

voila!

BigFooty is the perfect example of a decent idea allowed to turn into a steaming pile of poo.

It's important to play the ball rather than the man on any forum or it just degenerates into a place where it's only the trolls that feel at home.

It's been my long standing policy to subsequently ignore any poster who makes an unwarranted personal attack on me and I'm glad that I've not had to do so on this forum. It'd be nice if it stayed that way.

Synbad, you're a good poster.

Too good to have to use personal insults and jibes to make your point.

Usually if you prove someone wrong, that in itself is enough for other readers to judge the situation for what is, and decide who came out on top and who walked away the loser of the debate.

We don't want a bunch of nancy-boys on TC, but nor do we want people to think that chucking personal jibes into the discussion/argument is legit.

It degrades the community here, and it will degrade the quality of people we attract to the community.

If we allow people to let rip at each other (regardless of how justified they feel at the time) we'll eventually descend into the seventh circle of hell that is BigFooty.

I'm sure none of us, including yourself, want that.

It's ok to think of someone as a complete and utter mouth-breathing slack-jawed knobhead when you're arguing with them.

The trick is to make the rest of the audience agree with you, without you having to say it at all.

Surely you're good enough to destroy a person's arguments without resorting to personal jibes. I know you are. All we ask of every poster... me, you, Mark, 79V, Mandy, Frank, deano, melle, tommi, everyone... is to understand that they're part of a community here. And like all communites, it's important that the members of that community act in a socially cohesive way.

After all, Hulmey's aggression was fine on the field. But I don't think anyone liked to see him belting teammates at the pub...

John M.. i think im w little over the ytop because i have been saying were crap for 3 years and we need talent.
I have also been saying players like Lance and Campo are doing us no favours.
Because im kind of 'out there' .. i do get quite alot more criticism than most.. and usually its a few people having a go.
I really dopnt mind that because football is a sport that relies on passion and emotion so peoplke respond to it with passion and emotion.

I must admit there are plently of times im overly aggresive.
With BM its abit different... he had been sniping me with comments about "terrace whispers, rumour mongering and spaghetti muchers" for three years...

So i must say because he started this and was in the business of pulling me down (to make himself feel more important) i do take great delight in sticking it up him each chance i get.
I understand its childish and immature but BM was a catalyst in rounding up possies to tear me down and my thoughts way before i got personal with him.
Right now everyone knows BM was wrong about the older players leadership and our talent base...

I think i dont usually back down in reality or in here if i believe something.
I could post stuff have my posts questioned for credibilty (which also means me) and just not worry about it???
My defence mechanism is not back down and i do understand i do cross the line. But usually thats because i get more than one person hammering me about my thoughts or information as people love to knock people who they perceive as having more info on whats going on than themselves.. and others like to feel informed and have their thoughts provoked.

So i suppose i have my fans and knockers.
I dont mind people having a go at my credibility but if they do i dont take it lying down.
People that know me would never say im a nasty person.

Sometimes i just get white line fever if im challenged.

But thats only because i dont ever want to be known as a rumour monger or a troll..

I do believe people go for my jugular also.. i probably go that little bit harder because im like that when challeneged.
This is abit of an indepth insight into the goings on off my very twisted mind...and it might be because i hate being told im wrong.. which means MASSIVE EGO... but also maybe i like sticking up for myself because i genuinely support who i am???

Either way im sorry that i come with faults.

But i do admit to them and come with them ,.

Even know i know i must every now and again be wrong... :D

(If that all makes sense)

The other thing is i cant stand people that "just dont get it".

Theres a reason for that too.. i cant go into it in here.. but i get frustrated with people i think are 'fools'.. and in many peoples eyes im a fool myself..

I do try and put a comic slant alot of the time and sometimes i forget to.
The Hulme thing was tongue in cheek..

Synbad, my original post wasn't directed at you or BM, it was directed at the site as a whole entity.

You and BM have probably been the most vocal (and boring :P ) of late, but there have been way too many instances lately of nastiness across all the forums on TC.

I have had numerous complaints, as have the other mods, and I was just sick of it.

Remember when TBV was snatched away from us? I think the paper bag manufacturers must have made a fortune then, as there was an epidemic of hyper-ventilating.

I had visions of TC disintegrating as well due to peoples inability to construct their arguments (or defend themselves) without resorting to personal insults and bitching.

If everyone keeps the major points that I highlighted in my opening post in mind, TC will flourish, I have no doubt.

Synbad, don't take what I wrote as a personal affront, by any means. It's a bit like when a coach decides to make an example of a player he knows can take the criticism, in order to make a point to the group as a whole.

I more just wanted to back up what Mrs Caz said, because I really don't want TC to become a slanging match.

And if you think YOU have trouble suffering fools, then maybe you should hang around me for a while.

Seriously... you should feel secure in the knowledge that 99% of people at TC value your posts and love having you around. So you don't have to worry about biting back so hard (easier said than done, I admit). And I'd say exactly the same thing about Mark.

Don't sweat the criticisms of a few. We all cop that from time to time.

But anyway, it's no big deal. Just something to be aware of so we're all understanding that our personal actions can have broader ramifications for this community as a whole.

This is rather interesting ......

There is a thread on CSC in which the same things are being questioned and the actions of the members are being scrutinised a little more. The phrase 'nastiness' has been used to describe the attitudes of some too.
I wrote a long post replying to it and basically have said many of the things that have been said on this forum as well.

The fact that people's attitude, demeanour & netiquette is being questioned on BOTH sites would indicate that maybe Carlton supporters aren't really good at accepting the bad times, it's a new era for everyone.

Unsual coinicidence to have such strikingly similiar threads on two forums means that there must be a little more to it than meets the eye.

I don't think it is anything sinister sheik, but I certainly agree with you that Carlton supporters are not used to such bad times, and are struggling to cope with it.

When we are on a winning streak, we seem to agree with each other a bit more! :D
