Amazed that there's no thread dedicated to this weekend's clash yet so ... here 'tis.

Was impressed with the sentiment from Collingwood newbie Ben Davis in this article: http://carltonfc.com.au/default.asp?pg= ... eid=221136

Especially the following quotes:
Quote:
Meanwhile, the former Western Jet could not disguise his enthusiasm for next week's encounter against Carlton – already talking passionately about infamous rivalry between the two clubs, despite only making his debut for the Magpies in round seven this year.

"There's a bit of rivalry. I already hate Carlton and I've only been here a year, but I already hate them," Davies said, with a dangerous glint in his eye.

"Hopefully we can just drive them into the ground next week, and give our supporters a win."

I guess in the current sterile AFL climate of drafts, trades, salary caps etc we can't expect the old rivalries between teams to continue as they have done, but this bloke has got a lovely little hatred for the Blues going. I wonder who on our list would say the same about Collingwood if interviewed - and with a similar passion?

Good call - must admit I was thinking of the younger ones [Ben Davies being a young one himself].

* Prepares to ramble due to inability to focus on job at the moment *

Perhaps it runs in the family, Phoenix?

On another note: we all will have noticed the 'official' injury lists this week.

Carlton - Trent Sporn - TEST

Collingwood - A third of the team

Rocca, Tarrant, Fraser, Walker, Cloke ... some big bodies there. It would be preposterous to lose this weekend 'on paper'. Of course there are some Carlton players nursing injuries - although the same could be said for some of Collingwood's on-field players.

* rambles some more *

I can't really think of anything constructive to say about this game because of the horrible implications of the result. Who'd have thunk [sic] that I'd be more nervous about us winning games than losing them. Think I'll just ponder the possible Buckley / Walker match-up and leave it at that

And now it's raining and I'm going to get saturated on the scooter. Great.

* ramble ends due to impending deadline *

The thing is that it will look like we are tanking if we lose this one.

Fev tried to rule himself out but the tribunal wasn't buying it. Campo is on strict instructions to take a dive on Brodie and Lance will be back on the forward line where he has been less useful.

Apart from the banner falling on someone, I can't see us losing this one.

Damn thos magpies

How do I feel about Carlton v Collingwood? I'll enjoy supporting the boys during the contest and what will be will be.

Personally I'm more looking forward to the top of the VFL ladder clash between Werribee and the Northern Bullants. Saturady arvo suburban footy, now that's something to get excited about. :-D

See Camel's thread "how do you feel".

For the first time in living memory I will be hoping Carlton lose to Collingwood and for that I blame you Demetriou.

Us by four goals.
Us by four points.
Us in a scoreline of 0.4 to 0.3 .
Anyone who says that is fine by me....

I don't mind - as long as it is just US.
I'm crazy like that.....

But still - would be nice to see Fev get under Eddie's skin this week....

A draw would be the perfect result!
1. First picks in all 3 drafts
2. Equal on points with the Dawks
3. And the piece de resistance - Pies miss a PP! 8)

First nil all draw in AFL history....
Actually this game will be a cracker I reckon....poor sskills will put the ball on the ground plenty! ...lot's of loose ball to be won by kids diving in to get it....
expect Burns, Buckley and Licuria to have good games as there just no hardness in our guys.
Expect Barney to have a big game against Fanning.

Actually I think it will be high scoring with a toss up of who's going to win

Buckley says they'll be out to win this match, but that's if he doesn't come down with a case of the flu!

We are proably not good enough to win this week. They had a crack against the roos and dockers, both of which are way better than us and there not tanking, however the only edge we have is our forward line.

There midfield is better and any backline is better than ours.

Interesting read in the Australian Today. Carlton are Favourties becasue they reckon Colloingwood are tanking. Dont have a link but im sure someone here does.
