With his marking and hardness, I would far prefer Wiggins on the HFF than Longmuir. He can provide excellent defensive pressure in our forwardline, tag any attacking half back flankers, and we know he can be relied upon to take the marks running with the flight of the ball towards goal, as a HFF often has to. His disposal over short distances is excellent also. He seems to be at his best when delivering his little 30m toe pokes. Ideal to hit Fev on the lead with. It's only when he kicks over longer distances that I start to worry. He just seems like a far more solid option that Longmuir, and from what I've seen, his contested marking looks better also. Not sure on the difference in height between the two. Kind of sad that I can't even consider Houlihan as being genuinely in contention for the spot =( |

Strangely enough Cyclonus I totally agree. It does add a bit of balance to the forward line having someone who can tag the designated sweeper and keep him out of the action while providing enough of a genuine threat to not be totally ignored by the oppositions defense. If he can keep it up I think we've finally found a spot for the Wiggler. |

The only way Houlihan will play another game for Carlton is if Pagan wants to make sure we tank the next two games. Forget about him. |

Not if it has a negative effect on the team as a whole. Houlihan is a liability everytime he plays. |

Houlihan is a liability everytime he plays. He's not a liability when he's spotting Fev with a perfect pass....but he's not inspiring his teammates witha corageous mark...not everyone is going to do that, but you need to at least face the challenge when its there and not shirk. The answer isn't black & white |

The answer isn't black & white And how often does those passes happen? And I wasn't talking about his courage. It's his lazyness that effects the side. The side without Houlihan chases and tackles hard putting loads of pressure on the ball carrier and they run hard to support their team mates. Houlihan doesn't do that and the effect on the side shows whenever he plays. Maybe I'm being harsh but I can only go on what I've seen live at the footy. With Houlihan we’re soft and don’t put in 100% effort, without him we're like a pack of Hyenas. |

Although a lot of the time he looks lazier than he really is. Common trait amongst skillful players. He's shown he can hit Fev with great passes enough. He needs to work on his consistency though. I can certainly see the validity to the Wiggins > Houlihan argument though ![]() |

Maybe I'm being harsh but I can only go on what I've seen live at the footy. With Houlihan we’re soft and don’t put in 100% effort, without him we're like a pack of Hyenas. So whenever he plays we've lost & whenever he doesn't play we've won. Making a lot of sense there. |

Skills: 8 Courage: 2 Wiggins Skills: 6 Courage: 10 I agree with that in regards to Wiggins, but the thing is, his footy smarts is about 3. In a perfect scenario, where he only requires to run straight, the ball is coming straight to him, or he only needs to kick straight cos his team mate is free, Wiggins would play really well. But when you have a situation that requires decision making, he panicks and stuffs it up. For some reason, his brain doesn't process information at the speed of a normal footy player, Something as simple as a sudden change of direction of the ball from a bounce, it takes him a bit longer for him to realise that he needs to change direction to get the ball. He's just a dumb player. But having said that, Wiggins has good attitude, I think decision making is something that can be developed well with a good attitude and time. I think Wiggins is the type of player that peaks at later stage of his footy career, whether the club is patient enough to wait that long is another question. |
