A small article in today's "Herald Sun" titled "Champion Data Footy Fact" "Carlton's 330 disposals against Collingwood was the most by a Denis Pagan coached team since the Kangaroos had 331 against Port Adelaide in Round 13; 2001" |

Highlights our lack of ball winners and dismisses the fact that Pagan coached teams are low possession teams |

How does that dismiss that fact? Surely it's an anomaly. To truly dispell the assertion that Pagan teams are low-possession, you'd have to look at average possessions over the time he's coached, both for himself, and for every other team/coach. |

Statistically speaking, it's not even necessarily an "anomaly". It's just a point on a distribution curve. ![]() |

![]() I'm no maths nerd, but if it varies more than a certain amount from the mean, wouldn't that put it outside the standard deviation on the curve, and as such, be an anomaly? |

Jeez....I'm obviously not very bright! I thought it was just a case of us having far more disposals than normal.. ![]() |

No, that just means it's outside some number of standard deviations from the mean. Calling something an anomaly depends on how you define anomaly. The shape of the probability distribution is more likely to determine whether or not some point could be considered an "anomaly". |

I think we enjoyed ourselves, there were no passengers, we shared the ball around. |

I hate to see Hawthorn's possession count in a game... No wonder Luke Hodge has had over 30 touches in the last 5 games. The way that they handball/kick/handball/kick/handball/kick/handball/kick between 3 players in the backline who are 50 meters in the clear..... The Carlton thing is that we have being going very short and static out of the backline recently maintaining possession of the ball rather than kicking long and creating a turnover. |
