Two rounds to go and I want to win both of them. I always want to win. Having the first two picks in the draft might be useful for trade week, but history has shown that you are not always ensured a winner and jesus, at Carlton our first picks usually turn out to be duds, while people taken at 175 end up playing 300 games... Ok a slight exageration, but you get the point.
This is Carlton folks.
We are talking about the wooden spoon.
I was gutted when we were awarded (I can't bring myself to say won) a wooden spoon a few years ago and that will stay in the history books.
When my kids grow up I want them to be proud of the fact that their club has not only won the most premierships, but also has the fewest wooden spoons. I was raised in the luxury of being able to, even in a real crap season, take solace in the fact that we had never been awarded one.
When Collingwood won the premiership in 1990, when all the Collingwood supporters were gloating, I could say, well at least we have never been given a wooden spoon.
I'm an arrogant Carlton supporter and I want to stay that way. Tanking games is the equivallent of cheating, it reminds me of the way we would buy premierships. Do whatever we have to just to get wins on the board in the future.
Well, I would prefer to lose the PP and draft pick number 1 than lose to Essendon* and North.
I don't want the shame that goes with a wooden spoon.
In a few years time history will not recall who came in second last, but it will recall who came last and I don't want to be given any reason to recall this period in our club.
So come on Blueboys, kick some ass this week and the next and get us of the bottom of the ladder FF sake.
Comedy hour?
