Before 2003 it is very difficult to find much information about the Rising Star Award. In particular nominations for Carlton players.

The only one I have record of before 2003 is:

1995, Round 2, Scott Camporeale.

Does anyone out there know of any other Carlton Players who have received Rising Star nominations pre 2003?

Thanks in advance. :-D

I am pretty sure Brett Aitken won the "Rookie of the Year" award or whatever it was called back then. This might have been 1988ish (?) - at least the year that cowardly prick Alistair Clarkson whacked him from behind in that infamous London game (the Battle of Britain they called it).

Brett Aitken is not a bad cyclist but Ian Aitken was the better footballer.

You guys are legends, thanks very much!

Some interesting names on that list.

Our strike rate in the 2000's looks like it might be better than the 90's.

what I meant (but neglected to say  ) was the strike rate for the nominations actually becoming good players looks more promising. But even that is probably wrong.

Our strike rate might be better than it was in the 80/90s but the names on our list dont contain people like Silvagni, Kernahan, Bradley, Williams, Rhys Jones etc....

So no cigar....!!!...

Love how things can be twisted to make things look better but theyre not when you really get down to things.

Look find me players of the calibre of those guys and you might be staring at a premiership in the face.

Some of the rising stars mentioned over the last couple of years will probably not be on our list next year...
Sobering huh??

Alistair Clarkson + Battle of Brittain + broken jaw.

Aitken was never the same player after that.

Aitken was a premiership player but he was not much chop before that either.

What i dont understand is with all that cheque book recruiting we did.. and no real restraints how come we usually had a heap of duds in our team. Why bother taking Denis Collins or Rod Galt or Reid from other clubs???

Would that be because the whole cheque book football thing was a bit of a furphy?

Apart from the Kernahan/Motley/Bradley/Dorotich raid, what other specific examples of chequebook footy are there?

Barrassi I guess is one. Greg Williams another... I'm starting to struggle after that....
