I reckon Bret Thornton should play midfield (preferably centre) for this last game and then trial it in the pre-season. His edurance probably isnt great but he could play a kick behind play and delivier the ball into the forward line with his decent skills and smart disposal.

I know we would be stripping our backline of its best player but I say we should bring Norman and Livingstone in to replace him. I know they are both shit but lets see how they gop when we throw them in the deep end.

This might seem like a stupid move but this year is over and we cant possibly be even worse than we already are. It would suprise the Kangas and I reckon he would be hard to match up on.

Bret has been out of form and looks pretty un-happy in the backlines. I dont blame him since the ball go down there about a trillion times a game unopposed. His attitude might not be the best (sprayng team-mates) but lets see how he goes when he has some REAL responsibilty on his shoulders. Hopefully this happens and it works.

I dont epect it to be an instant success but Bret seems the sort of player who has genuine talent about him and I bet he played in the middle as a youngster. He would probably be a good ball winner if he played there.

I think pace might be a bit of a problem but he has the class to get out of trouble in the backlines (well he did last year) so why cant he do that in the middle.

No this has nothing to do with tanking. .

Not a bad idea for a trial but I'd rather him around the back half-back line somewhere. Thats where his future lies, may aswell develope him further there.

With the quality of his disposal, and coolness under pressure, I could see him growing into a role of a dashing HBF, a la Matty Lappin. If Skinny stays with us next year, then that could free Skinny to go forward in his old role as a goalsneak in some matches.

Don't know about this one.

J.Brown was swung into the middle during the course of the year, and many are saying that this has cost the Lions potentially a finals birth, due to the OP that Brown suffered from the rigour and extensive running.

I don't think he has fully recovered from his injuries. Maybe if he was fully fit I'd be all for it.

I'm not sure about this one. He's a bit soft for my liking and not really quick enough for the middle. :?

Thornton could very easily play midfied or CHF.

Betts can play midfield and BP well.

Fevola should be played more at FB/CHB. He needs to be developing as a better player.

Waite (194cm), S.O'hAilpin (198cm), Hartlett (195cm, Bryan (196cm) add genuine height and mobility in the key positions. Add Fisher, Raso, Deluca, Morrell, Livingston, Sam Hunt from Essendon* and Jason Saddington from the Swans around them.

These ideas are just ideas. They may be ridiculous but from watching teh game on the weekend and listening to those in the know regarding Carlton players these sort of moves are not out of the question in 2006 and beyond. Players who can play in numerous roles are better players and of more value to the team.

could work......

at worst, it grows his endurance and maybe develop him into a more potent CHB running force, or even CHF

good idea... trying new things is important for us

No way. Thornton is not a midfielder and never will be. Half back line yes.

Simmo is a winger.
Russell is a back flanker.
Fevola is a full forward.
Betts is a crumber.
Livo is a full back.
Stevens is a midfielder
etc etc etc

Why does everyone have to be a ulility? Kouta is a freak that is why he has survived in that role.
