Many people on this site are a big wrap for Hartlett .Having watched the Bullants a bit this year I cant see what all the fuss is about.Maybe I have caught him on his bad days. And Russell doesn't do enough at VFL level so he is a long way off to contributing to the navy blue.

Agree and disagree respectively

Hartlett played a handful of games so don't judge too harshly, but I'm sure those games were a bit ofa disappointment to the Club.

As for Russell, who already appears to have a crystallising player for the fans, I think he's been great. Always on the fastest, most dangerous player for the opposition, Russell is rarely beaten yet gets a solid 15 possies from BP. Next year watch for a move to the wing and some high possession games.

I'm getting coaches luncheon flashbacks, molsey.

It's very disappointing that we are trying to put down ou players quickly, isn't it? I just don't get it. It infuriates me (see upcoming article!) Ah well, that guy only has a few years left to live so I shouldn't despise him too much.

Can I just say that Hartwell appears to be a bit shorter than his 195cm suggests too?

Keogh,

How can say that Hartlett isn't living up the wraps laid on him?
He has come back from a knee injury and has played a few games in the 2s and 1s of the Bullants.

Should expect to see Hartlett play better football in 2006 for the Ants.
Hopefully by then he will be pushing for senior selection.

It all depends on what your expectations are.
If you think an 18yo kid who's come back from a serious knee injury and is playing his first year of senior footy is going to immediately rack up 25 possies and take a dozen hangers then you're deluded.

What I looked for in Hartlett was:
1. His intensity and attack on the ball and at the contest. Very good
2. His disposal skills. Very good.
3. His mobility. Very good.
4. His potential body size & strength. He's gonna be BIG.

All he needs is to play consistantly. When he breaks into the seniors he will need time to pick up the faster tempo of AFL.

I know it's frustrating but we need to be patient with the kids.

Keogh i watched JR in 5 games this year. The thing about JR is he is a true flanker in the mould of Andy McKay. Takes his opponents on with speed and disposes with precision, he also doesn't lose out many contests one on one and is a great mark. When he adds bulk to his frame expect a regular senior spot and harder attack on the ball.

To say he is a long way off contributing in the navy blue is way off the mark IMO.

Bit early to be on their cases..both Hartlett and Russell look like they have something to offer and we have to be patient...

Ahem, 24 players before him...

Just call me Mr Pedantic!

I was impressed with his 1st quarter and a bit against Geelong in the VFL. He was opposed to Lonergan during that time and outpointed him on a few occasions. Took some strong contested marks and ran off his opponent and disposed well. His aggression and competitive nature shown through as well with his attack on the ball. He then rolled his ankle and was quiet when he came back on.

Yep, delist the hacks now. While we're at it, lets retrospectively delist Simpson. After all, he managed zero touches in his first couple of games didn't he? Not good enough for an 18 year old who weighed 50kg at the time. Oh, and what about Waite. He never managed a game in 2002 - this in a team that won the spoon for the love of god! He must go as well. Sick of these players who can't win games off their own boots in their first year of AFL/VFL football. Development? What for??!!!

Yeah, and I can't believe we held on to Ratten & Kouta for so long as they didn't produce the goods until they were about 22yo - not good enough!

I am already disappointed in the recruits for next year. Murphy and Hurn have been poor. Lets pay them out now and be done with it.
