Given what Pagan has gone through I think our (and his) future is bright, and we have to believe in the man. The next three months will be fascinating.
Go Blues!

That's actually a very good article.

Trevor Grant is one of the Herald Sun's few journo's worth reading.

Although, when Pagan says 'I could give you reasons why we collapsed against Essendon* but no-one wants to hear them'... well, I suspect quite a few Carlton supporters would like to know.

Still, despite the fact that he plays his cards ridiculously close to his chest, I think Denis is undoubtedly the man for us over this difficult journey.

I liked the part in the article where he says words to the effect of "I could make excuses but I'm not an excuses person, and excuses are all they'd be."

Unlike some more media-happy coaches....

Great piece... DP rarely lets us know what he's thinking and this time... he still doesn't... Nice work! The thing we want and need to know is that he will be here for 3 more years to turn us back into a force...

Pagan is the right man as far as I'm concerned. I can respect that some supporters think we should get rid of him, but I can't help but think they're expecting miracles that won't come no matter who the coach.

A man of rigid beliefs who uses cryptic phrases and well-worn one-liners to feed the media, his views on overt public displays were set in stone years ago when he read a book by Tom Landry, the famous American gridiron coach who advocated that when you are coaching you should look as emotional as you do when you are waiting to catch a bus.

There was this time I missed the 4.15pm bus from Box Hill Station - geez I was really ticked off. :P

Trevor obviously thinks it's raining....

We are doing things we maybe wouldn't have thought about doing four or five years ago. I really mean that.

Yeah, like not winning...

We really want to get it right, just for starters, to set a few of those people on their backsides.

Three years is a long time to be thinking about "starters"!!!

Pagan is defensive when asked to give some examples of the smarter and harder work that is being done at the club.

I'll bet he is......

I don't want to tell you because it sounds like I'm blowing my own trumpet," he said.

Pulling your pud would be closer to the mark....

There's been a lot of subtleties, a lot of different things done at Carlton, even over the past four or five weeks, things that you'd like to think have changed things slightly."

Raining again...cats and dogs.

You blokes still carrying on like starstruck teenagers? Wake up and smell the wood.

Slip into a cinema and give yourself a treat
Better take a raincoat could be sticky on the seat
Open up you Twisties and open up your fly
Pictures start to flicker as your hand moves down your thigh

If your mother knew what you were doing
She'd probably hang her head and cry
And if she thought that you were whipping the dripping
She'd give you a belt, extract all the teeth of your fly

Munchy Munchy Twisties the shorts are such a drag
Make a little opening in the other end of your bag
Now put your Twisties right down there in your lap
No-one ever guesses whatsit's in the pack

If your mother knew what you were doing
She'd probably hang her head and cry
And if she thought that you were whipping the dripping
She'd give you a belt, extract all the teeth of your fly

Ooh la la la la la la la la

Better get a grip on yourself
You better pull yourself together..

Picture's almost over but still your not quite there
John Wayne pulls his gun out and you wish he'd some to spare
Then they turn the lights on and people start to stare
You find you've got a boot full and your coat's stuck to the chair

If your mother knew what you were doing
She'd probably hang her head and cry
And if she thought that you were whipping the dripping
She'd give you a belt, extract all the teeth of your fly

Ooh la la la la la la la la

Yes, there can be only one explanation for the fact we're on the bottom of the ladder:

the coach.

Forget the fact that during the late 90's and early 00's we effectively recruited nobody, and topped-up in order to chase the flag.

Forget the fact that pretty much the entire core of our team retired within a couple of years, leaving us with easily the worst list in the AFL.

Forget the fact that we were banned from the draft for 2 years straight, leaving us unable to rebuild our list.

Forget the fact just about every knowledgable commentator on the game said, back in 2002, that it would be at least 5 years before we'd be competitive again.

It's the coach.

Sack Pagan and replace him with, I don't know, maybe Garry O'Donnell. Then we'll be playing finals football before you know it.

Life must be pretty easy for people who can see everything in such uncomplicated terms.
