Should always aim for the finals. You plan for that and nothing else.

Given the list is not even close to being finalised it is even difficult for even the 'realists' amongst to do much more than guess.

Anyone who mentions the "T" word should be made to walk around the MCG on Grand Final day naked while the crowd pelt them with rotten fruit.

I dont care how many games they win or where they finish on the ladder I just want to see improvement and a competitive team with no more 10 goal + floggings. you would hope that we blood more young talent next year and give everyone a glimmer of hope for the years to come.

That would be me then Mark.

We should pray to the heavens above the AFL continue the priority pick system next year and that we lose as many games as possible. Hopefully win no more than five. And that all other teams improve enough so that we are the only team getting priority picks.

We'll then have picks 1, 2 & 17.

On our list we'd then have 1,1,2,2,4,4,9,17 & 20.

That's NINE!!!! players from the top 20 in the draft.

Add Waite, Thornton, Fisher, Betts, Raso could've been a top 20 pick this year, Bentick, Carrazzo, Simpson.

If that's not a start for building a dynasty, then we may as well give up.

I say tank the crap out of 2006!

We all know how quickly a year can pass.

And then we'll be invincible come 2008 or 2009 or 2010.

In 2010
Bentick will be 25
Betts 24
Blackwell 24
Carrazzo 27
Fisher 26
Raso 23
Russell 24
Simpson 26
Thornton 27
Waite 27
Walker 24
2005 pick 1 22
2005 pick 4 22
2005 pick 20 22
2006 pick 1 21
2006 pick 2 21
2006 pick 17 21

I forgot about the O'hAlipins also.

Stevens will be 30.

Forget 2006.

Embrace 2010.

If we trade Lance I expect us to be about the same as this year.

However if we hold on to Lance I'd expect a minor improvement on this year.

Difficult to say, before this season started I thought we might win about 8 games in 2005 (yeah I know, no mans land), given that I thought we probably won a few lucky ones in 2004.

But for next year my expectations are quite low I suppose, really do not know what to expect. We are going to be a VERY young team next year, probably the youngest by some margin. We really should not expect much more than this year.

No, highly unlikely.

The competition is much more even now than it used to be and once all of the compensation and zone selection players retire out of the system over the next 10 years it will even up that bit more.

As a consequence the difference between top and bottom should be smaller on average and therefore getting into finals will not be such a long term process.

But that is the medium term future, for next year I would be happy to see an improvement in the younger players at the club, more pack busting by our players, ... and about a million other things.

But I suppose a focus on developing young players as the main theme.

It's hard to say obviously at this stage as we still have this year's list. Let's see which players we get through trades, draft picks, PSD etc.

However I can tell you now that I won't be happy with another season of 4/5 wins and rightly or wrongly, if we struggle like this again then some questions will start to be asked...

I'd be interested to hear your reasoning behind this.

I think we'll improve slightly, we probably won't win any more games but we shouldn't get spanked so many times during the year.

All i want to see is a competative outfit in 2006
I know DP will want to improve on this year

And i can bet that the PP system will be scrapped or restructured and it should be too

So if have a year of developement and are comepetative i will be happy with what ever result we get.

Yeah I don't reckon we should Try either.

Wins are inconsequential really, or at least aiming for a certain number. I just want the kids to get plenty of game time and to continue their development. Based on the early picks of previous years I'd like to see one or two of our early picks given a lot of game time and to be up to the task as well, including Russell and Walker. I want to see Waite, Fisher, Carazzo, Thornton, Betts, Bentick, Simpson et al continue to impress.

I want our senior players to LEAD. And if Stevo is going to be captain next year I hope he bloody well acts like one and we end the year patting ourselves on the back saying what a great year Nick had.

Finals, not expecting it, but would take it happily. Tanking, I bloody hope not, this year, while maybe necessary, sucked big time.

Most of all, I want to look forward to my team playing footy each weekend.

Pretty speculative stuff predicting fortunes for 2006. We will all be somewhat wiser after all the trading and drafting is completed.

With such a young list I'd expect us to be around the bottom few again next year.

The medicine tastes like shit but we'll get well again.

Exectly right jbee. Our priority pick and early Nat Draft pick would not lead to much of an immediate improvement but would cause longer term gradual improvement.

The key to any earlier rise is if we pick up a couple of ready made top players in the PSD and/or by trading. The first PSD pick gives us bargaining power that might see us do a trade or two that other clubs would not do if their player could not walk to us via PSD.

Bottom 4

Still a long way to go, I highly doubt we'll be competitive against the top 4 teams, we just don't have the talent to compete with their midfields.

One of the main factors will be having midfielders who are accountable.....this year has been a disaster in terms of staying on your man
