have just watched the 3rd qtr of the 1970 prelim on foxfooty.

according to the commentary, bruce doull went off with a knee injury and was replaced by chandler.

i have very little recollection of this game, apart from jezza's inaccuracy (4 goals 10), and wasn't aware, or should i say i couldn't remember, that doull had played.

ahhhh ... the good old days

I haven't seen it for a while but certainly worth watching over and over.

Chandler did come off the bench but not to replace Doull.
The man who got 4 goals that day was the other bench-warmer, Teddy Hopkins.
Jezza got 3 goals - his last was the best.
The whole team only scored 9 points and that included Hopkins hitting the post and Walls having one touched on the line.

I think maxyblue was talking about the prelim final...
and you are referring to the GF.

Yes...the prelim. Bruce Doull still had a few problems with the leg that he broke in the '69 season and struggled a bit in '70 with that injury. I have a great photo (that originally featured in Peter McKenna's 'My Football' book) of Robert Walls and Bruce with the Premiership Cup in the bath together after the game....great stuff. These days that would be called gay, but back in 1970 that was real mateship!

Dr Sherrin, that photo is also in the book - Carlton- The 100 Greatest.
It is a good photo. I agree.

It is after the 72 grand final as Doull didn't play in 70 grand final.

premierships in 72/79/81 and 82.
