Right now Carlton Football Club is at its lowest point ever in its proud history. THINGS HAVE TO CHANGE. Over the next week or two I want to see CFC freshen up it’s coaching panel with some new names with new methods & ideas. Signing up Shaun Rehn and one or two former Carlton playing legends this week would be a great start. Over the next couple of weeks I want to see the back of Camporeale, Lappin & Whitnall. Over the next month I want to see CFC all over the media creating havoc chasing contracted and uncontracted young stars from all clubs. Over the next couple of months I want to see some new hungry young fresh minded Carlton business people who have a modern proactive mindset brought onto the board. I want to see a modern NEW Carlton Football Club. A rebirth if you will. A PR blitz. Over the next 3 or 4 months I want to read reports of Russell, Simmo, AB, Blackers, Hartlett, Raso, TBird, Fish, AW, Carlos & Aisake insanely hitting the weights and working on their skills. I don’t want to see Carlton keeping almost EVERYTHING quiet & “inhouse†|

Agree completely! Alot of your points relate to Marketing - I have to say we would have to have the lamest Marketing department of any club - what have they done that is unique or original???? Someone in the Kouta captaincy thread posted that he was told we are keeping Kouta as captain because the promotional material for next year has already been printed and it would cost too much to change it. The question needs to be asked, why are we still using Kouta on our promotional material??? I love Kouta, but how many years are we going to receive material and see his face plastered all over it??? Are our marketing people so out of touch with supporters that they think the same face we have used for the last 10 years will work? Don't they know the average supporter is excited by the youth on our list? I want to see promotional material with Fev, Waite, Walker, Thornton, Carrazzo, Bentick, Fisher. The youth is what is keeping us all going - why aren't they capitalising on this???? Who does our marketing? Do we have qualified people in there, or are they just people that have been around the club for 20 years and we don't know where else to put them? If they're not qualified, let's get some qualified people in there. If we can't afford to pay for qualified people, Carlton should be looking outside the square. We can align ourselves with one of the business schools. Melbourne BS offers a masters of marketing, maybe speak to them, see if something can be worked out where their marketing students help us with marketing campaigns. Anything is better than the present marketing we have at the club. |

Hence why we are not very active on the marketing front. The best form of marketing is success on the field, although my attempt at promotional posters for next year would be: Episode 4: A New Hope Would contain a picture of Pagan and Murphy, Pagan (Yoda) his fourth year at coaching Carlton and Murphy(Luke) the young prodigee!! ![]() |

Would that make Eddie Betts a Jawa? And we know who The Spew would be... ![]() |

Haven't we been through this all before? There are no instant quick fixes... |

Nobody's talking about a quick fix here, I think most of us realise that is impossible. |

It is more important to do this slowly and right and build with the correct building blocks in a fashion that is designed to withstand a boom bust scenario. Id hate to think were aiming at being premiership contrenders in 2 years.... cos if we are.. were just on this great big acid trip thats just bound to end in tears..... |

Yeah that’s right, and why can’t we find gems in the late twenties, thirties and forties??? Let’s start get rid of the players sucking us dry and put the funding into the relevant departments e.g. recruiting / coaching. Ciao : ![]() |

The question around people qualified in our marketing dept is a good one. My brother has had small commercial dealings with the club and his comment was 'embarrassing'. |

Great post - let's hope our people have some guts and make the moves we need. Not just sit on their hands. |

If the club wants to go forward then get the right people for whats needed. I find qualifications over rated. Too many people who have degrees have no idea. Obtaining a piece of paper doesnt mean you can do the job you trained for. Some can, some cant and others just teach. |

Danny it wasnt meant as a slight to those who chose teaching as a career and are good at it. It was more of a dig at those academics I have come across in my studies who spent so long studying they arnt suited to function in the real world. ![]() |
