Yeah, he's been in good form lately. Written a couiple of insightful things on the Baggers. He's got us summed up, methinks.

He is a Collingwood supporter (i think) but unlike most journos spends some time around the club at training...
Most send a junior journo for the compulsory press confrence where Denis gives nothing.

Jake is always happy to talk to supporters and he does take a great interest in clubs and lists...

Thought some of that article was ill - thought out. We did trade McKernhan, Allan, Murphy and Beaumont in 2003. Unable to trade senior players in 2004 because they were on substantial contracts. Now free of contracts Lappin, Whitnall and Campo are up for trade, plus Fev who had to be re-contracted or he could have walked to another club without us getting a proper deal. So what elder player on our list haven't we been willing to realistically trade over the past two years? The answer is Kouta on the Queen's payroll. The difference between Hawthorn and us, is they traded for picks and we went for players. If from now on we trade for players and not picks I'll be rightly pissed off.

don't get too caught up in the detail - yes we did get rid of McKernan .. but that is not the main point of the article

the main point is, face facts there is no way a premiership is coming our way in the 3-4 years, so give away your older players for draft picks and start from the bottom up ... we have already begun this process and I think you will see that what Jack is proposing is already in motion

Jake is a Carlton-phile and is helping people digest what is going on Vintage...
Its not just an intellectual analysis.
It is helping condition people to why....

sub textually that may be the case Synbad but that doesn't go far in a daily paper.
His link to Hawthorn's vigourous offloading (sure) is pretty thin.

Got all the hallmarks of being punched out about an hour before everythings due in bed.

4/10 for mine.

Post subject:

And another thought - if Hawthorn is focussed on the future and prepared to offload the oldies, surely Peter Everitt would be tasty trade bait for some nice early picks? He's not going to be in their next premiership side.

Author:  Synbad [ Thu Sep 15, 2005 9:14 am ]
Post subject:

But Everritt is playing football at a much greater level than ANY of our players...

Look Jakes article is about conditioning...

Author:  Wild Blue Yonder [ Thu Sep 15, 2005 9:19 am ]
Post subject:

But the premise of the article is clearly about building a list toward the next GF not conditioning supporters for some hero cuts come trade time. And that's where I think his comparison to the Hawkers spectacular trade history is tenuous.

Thats what you think...

I think its not so much about Hawthorn its more about us....

Hows that???

One thing i cant stand is when people get bogged down by the finer details ....

He is saying... ITS ABOUT TIME CARLTON STARTED GOING FORWARDS!!!!

or cant you see that???

Thanks for the advice Syn. I can clearly understand the parallel that Jake is trying to draw - I am questioning the selection of Hawthorn as a reasonable parallel.

It is lazy journalism - and that's something I do know about. If you want me to find out how long before deadline he filed it, just let me know.

Ok substitute Hawthorn and replace it with StKilda...

If that makes the article more palatable...

But the guts of the article is about rebuilding properly..!!!... and being ruthless to go forwards.

It doesn't have to be palatable, simply better researched. That's all I'm getting at. He's hacked it out without enough thought and for me that's not good enough. I want more for my dollar.

Well you don't have to fork out a dollar for it cause you got it for free on the net...

Very good point by Jack and Ciccio. This is exactly what we should do!, drop the old money hungry players and create a team like atmosphere, which gells rather than being an team of individuals.
