Just purchased the 1962 CFC Annual report, great reading for history buffs.

Some interesting things in there:

Denis Pagan won the trophy for 'Most Servicable' player in the Carlton Under 17's team. Ironically Carlton lost the U17s grand final that year to North Melbourne, I hope Denis enjoyed the players end of season trip to Hepburn Springs.

Gee, football clubs were different beasts then. Carlton had a seniors team, reserves, under 19s, under 17s and under 15s teams.

41 players were tried in the under 19 team, 50 players in the under 15s.

CFC had 8866 members, 2153 of which were 'scholars'.

Interesting to note that more money was spent by the club on recruitment than on senior coaching, 2481 pounds and 1887 pounds respectively. Some lessons there perhaps for today, I would think that situation would be reversed these days.

Yeah I liked the little article in that report on the 1962 Best & Fairest.

Quote:
Young ruckman John Nicholls caused a stir during the Best and Fairest presentation, with several guests overhearing him make unwelcome comments during club legend Bob Chitty's speech

Nicholls was heard to remark "why won't this old codger just shut up", resulting in widespread displeasure from the Carlton establishment.

Speculation now rages over Nicholl's future with the Carlton Football Club.

Great post Jarusa!

So many players got to wear the navy blue!! You could imagine how close the players were if they moved up through the ranks together.

deadly serious. I hear Nicholls could be traded for another club legend. Nicholls for KB and an early Hall of Fame pick.

Two HoF picks. Don't want KB.
