In 2002 whne the Collins board came to power we were told that the AGM and elections needed to be postponed until the following March so that a full audit of the clubs finances could be prepared. Fair enough.

Why then has it remained at this time instead of returning to is right and proper time of December?

Every other club hold their elections at the end of the year in which the season was played - not the start of the next. It allows the members to vote whilst memories are fresh and it gives time for new appointees to have an impact prior to the next season starting.

Holding our AGM and elections in the week prior to the next season starting (last year - after the Wizz cup final), is ludicrous - an insult to the members.

Why do we continue with this? Because it is a way yet again of the Collins board holding onto power. They figure that by holding it in the shadow of the new season when everyone is full of hope and expectation, that it will give them a greater chance of winning should someone stand against them. The failures of the prior year will have dimmed in the glow of the expectations of the new players and new year ahead.

It is a cynical ploy, and yet again the Collins Board is showing it is prepared to treat Carlton members with contempt. It is a slight of hand in football politics worthy of Elliot at his best. The more this board does and does not do - the fuzzier the distinction between the way both boards treat their members. (I am not saying this board is corrupt like the old one - it just treats members with contempt).

This will be further exacerbated by the departures of Hunter and MacKay - the two directors who genuinely care for members and true democtratic process.

Come on Collo - while you have the chance - bring the AGM and any election that may happen forward to December while you still can. We can see what you are doing - we the members are not fools.

Maybe the elections are for 12 month terms.

No - they are for the period until the next AGM - whenever the board chooses to hold it. Usually 12 months, but not necessarily. If we brought it back to December, after the first year it would return to 12 months - totally accepteble under our constitution.

Speedy, I agree with you. They were also going to change the constitution so that all members were voting members. However, I don't believe that they have done that either.

Don't recall hearing confirmation of this either.

In my opinion elections MUST be held and board members must have a mandate from the members ...

I kept telling you Synbad that Collo is like Elliott only with financial nous (probably haven't spelt that right), but you just wouldn't listen.

Candidates only need to be "elected" (by an actual vote count) if there are more candidates than positions.

Similar things happen in most sporting clubs where often people need to be persuaded/invited to stand for committee/board.

Do you think that given the numbers we have online, we could get someone on the board that represents the online community, or at least in theory?

Not sure if that's true SB, but financial nous, or lack of it, got us into the mess we are in, so it's a pretty important quality in a club president, and can send the club out of existence when you don't have it. Still Elliott didn't play favourites he not only ruined our club financially, but also several companies and himself.

1) The Elliott "rule" mnetioned earlier in the thread was that financial members had to separately advise the club in writing that they wanted to be voting members. The new Board (as promised) did remove this clause right away so that all financial members can rock up to the AGM and vote.

2) it is insulting to compare Collo to Elliott - Eliott is a crook - Collo is not. Like him or not - and you do not need to agree with him at the moment -but without Collo the club might have folded. Thankless people around here - easy to type crap when you sit behing a keyboard. try to help the club instead or at least attend the meetings.
