Post subject:  Great Quarters

In a similar vain to the great marks thread, just to keep the vibe of the place rolling with some happy memories, what about

Great Carlton Quarters

There's your standouts like the final q of the 99 Prelim etc - but what about some of the more obscure ones…

In the last 6 or 7 rounds of 1983 it seemed we staged a massive 3rd term fightback every week to charge toward the finals - one game against Haw when Johnno took over stands out…perhaps some of the older posters can help me out here for more info.

1st qtr Vs Ess, 1993 Qual Final, MCG. The first ever night final - Sticks kicked 4 on FletcHER & finished with 6 for the night. I knew we were switched on with an opening like that.

Final qtr Vs Rich, 1995, MCG. Close at 3q time - then the Baggers showed them who was boss in the last, including a lovely running sealer from Bradley from 50.

1st qtr Vs Geel 1995, Optus Oval. Just a superb standard of footy from both sides & one of the best games I've seen. A lockout too.

3rd qtr Vs Geel 1990, Optus Oval. Down by 41 points at half time. SOS to CHF, Sticks to FF. Both went nuts to give us a slight lead at 3q time.

Meeeeemories……...

Third quarter vs Footscray at Princes Park in '92 - the week after Terry Wheeler announced that the Doggies would win the 1992 premiership.

We were struggling at the time and the Doggies were flying - and we ripped 'em a new arsehole :-D

1992 was a great year:

3rd quarter vs St Kilda at Optus Oval when Luke O'Sullivan went nuts and kicked 3 or 4 for the quarter. We were 6 goals down at half-time after Lockett had killed a young Michael Sexton before Dorra moved onto him and kept him goalless in the 2nd half. Ian Aitken even chimed in with 2 goals in that same qtr

That was the game when Lockett Ironed out Matty Hogg after the final siren in front of the social club. The crowd went F*CKING NUTS and Dorra and Hyphen looked like they were going to kill Plugger.

That was a great day. Rhino going nuts and a blew at the end of the game. Also seeing the proud St Kilda guernsey on the back of one Aldo Di Petta, WORST AFL FOOTBALLER EVER :-D

I thought Plugger had been on SOS in the 1st half? No?

Deano I remember the Doggies game…didn't Hoggy get reported for striking Brian Royal?

SOS wasn't playing, I'm pretty sure. Maybe he played forward.

Hogg did and was suspended. I reckon it cost us badly the next week against Collingwood, a game we needed to win to make the finals.

Tommy Alvin had to play as the on-ball tagger and Mil Hanna in Alvin's role in defence. Disrupted the balance of the side badly.

We'd have given it a fair shake in 92 if we'd been able to make the finals. We needed either Hawthorn or St Kilda to lose in the last round, or we needed to beat the Eagles in Perth.

Yep...I remember going to the G in that final round to barrack for the Dees against the Hawks. Interesting year, 92.

Yeah - for no apparent reason, in the goalsquare at the Heatley end. Ball was a mile away. Hoggy had a brain fart I think...

I reckon we were in a better possie to give the big one a shake in 92 than 93. If we had have snuck into the finals that year it would have been very interesting I reckon.

Kernahan was a f*cking star in 92 - could do no wrong.

This was the day after my Grandpa died. I know I taped the replay and I reckon I spent the next 2 weeks trying to find which tape it was on  never did find it.

I had most of the next week off school, much to the relief of our Bulldog's supporter at school. By the time I got back we were right into Carlton-Collingwood the next weekend

Same game in the last quarter ... Sticks took possession, handballed to himself around Russell Morris and then kicked a banana from the boundary line at the scoreboard end. Gold!

My "Carlton: The gathering Storm" videotape is worn out on that goal - one of my favourite Sticks moments.

F*ck I miss him

A few recent games, from not so good times.

1st quarter against the Dogs, in 2002.

1st quarter against the Dees, in 2003, when SOV kicked that goal I was choked up. @#$%&! we should have won that game for Jarrad.

And the game against the Lines, again, I think it was a first quarter, we were up by 8 goals at half time I think. Was 2002 again IIRC.

I cried that day. Only Grand Final losses have hurt more than that one.

It was also the day when my Corey McKernan related anger nearly spilt over. He starred in the first quarter, then went off with knee soreness. F*CKING SOFT. I'm bloody ashamed he ever played for us.
