Journalist Anthony De Bolfo has kindly published a wonderful story about one of Carlton's lesser known players on the Blueseum.

This story is about Peter Bevilacqua, who played one game for Carlton in the 1950's. Peter is the only known VFL/AFL player born in Italy, and the article chronicles his family's journey to Australia and the impact the Carlton Football Club played.

The story is a great read and paints a vivid picture of one of the many interesting stories that make up the history of the proud club we all support.

The article can be found here: The Peter Bevilacqua Story

As Molly would say, 'do yourself a favour' and give it a read.

Fantastic read! :P

WBY, as Jarusa says, do yourself a favour.

I suppose, as a son of an Italian migrant myself, that story was very interesting to read. And having a very close mate whose parents themselves emigrated from the very town Peter came from - San Marco in Lamis - then it is simply a fascinating read.

I love this section of the article especially:

A great read Jarusa. For social history buffs,Tony wrote a great book some time back called "In search of Kings" where he traced his family back to Italy and the lives of those other Italians who emigrated to Australia aboard the same ship...

Ok, I got around to reading it and take Jar Jar's word for it.
Great read.
I wish a bloke from Adelaide of Italian origins would read it so one day he may too understand what humility is and what playing for Carlton should mean - other than ridiculous amounts of money.

Great read. That's my novel read for the year. Soon to be made into a series of 3 movies for the Big Screen. Far out, took me half an hour to get through.

Thanks guys.

I'm still learning how to add stuff to the Blueseum, the article now has a few pics in amongst the text (just worked out how to do it) to break the story up a bit.

I finally took ten minutes out of my busy schedule to have a read of this today.

An absolute ripper of a read, congrats to all concerned.

Wally Koochew, Bill. I know the relatives of Wally and gave them the Carlton mag with that story in it. They were wrapped even though they support Hawthorn.

Good family gone bad I 'spose.

Sorry WBY I was recalling from memory and should've looked it up ....Hawks eh?

Ah well, I'm sure Howard will bring out a law soon enpough that will allow us to deport them or lock them up at Woomera....

(sorry about the political swipe....just a bid of blood boiling at the moment)

Like he'd need a law to do that.
