I was looking at some old footage of carlton - around 70-72 - and was amazed by how good a kick of the ball Ian Robertson was. You know he was the bloke that used to call the footy for channel 7 back in the early 90's and he was pretty good at it too. But the distance that Robo covered with his drop kicks was astounding. I guess it doesn't have to be length of kick - but does anyone have any idea of who was a better kick at the club over the years than Robertson? |

Bruce Doull? Don't think he'd match it with Robbo for distance but for accuracy I don't think many bar Diesel would beat him. I remember some time late in 1986 seeing Doull miss a target and just knowing that the end was nigh. I don't think I'd ever seen him miss to that point. Just on Diesel - I always thought it was a shame that his handball skills were so sublime. If they weren't people would probably regard his foot passing as close to the greatest ever. |

Yes Gee Dubya........... i think Diesel is one of the most under-rated footballers of all time...........! yes yes.......i know people rate him........but think about it.......when they talk about the greatest and stuff.....he's not usually mentioned in the same breath.......! i've never seen anybody "open" the game....the way he was able to..........! we used to yell out......."hoooold it............hooooooooooold IT".......! he could have 12 touches......and still be best on ground.......! let alone 44...............! was it 44..........? kindest regards tommi |

Diesel is in the top couple of kicks i have ever seen...up there with Jarman for hurting the opposition. Each one counted |

Ah, yes....the glorious torpedo punts of Geoff Southby. I remember one beautiful Saturday afternoon at Princes Park in early 1978 - Carlton versus Hawthorn...... Southby kicked out from the Heatley Stand end - a long, long torp that cleared the pack and landed in the arms of Bruce Doull. The Doormat bolted, took a bounce and kicked long to half forward, where Wayne Johnston had led wide to mark. The Dominator played on, swung onto his left foot and slammed through a major from all of sixty metres. Thirty seconds of football perfection. |

Wayne Harmes I reckon was about the best I have seen for the Blues. I remember late in his career he was playing in the Magoos and fired a 60 pass to a leading Warren MacKenzie. I dont reckon the kick went above about 10 feet in the air and there was a very lound 'thump!' as it cannoned into MacKenzies chest, who seemed fortunate not to be winded as a result. Fantastic kick. |

Fev is also a good kick in play. Greg Willams. Matty Lappin. and also Ryan Houlihan. I know he is sorft but when he has the ball and kicks inside 50 he just seems to always find Fev. |
