Post subject:  Whose been our best kick for goal?
We've been looking at our best field kicks; but goal kicking ability is a rare talent.

I loved Bryan Quirk; 60 yds out on the wing, you could put your house on his torpedo punts being goals.

I can't recall Peter McKenna missing either in his short time at Princes Park.

Greg Kennedy- Ross Ditchburn- Brad Pearce- Craig Bradley.

Who are our best goalkickers?

Despite his short time at the club, I reckon Digby Morrell was a very good kick for goal and was probably behind Fevola in terms of finishing.

Bit of a sharp shooter was old Digby.

I remember Parkin stating Murphy and Diesel were the best kicks from inside 50, but from outside 50 he rated Justin as the best kick for goal at the club.

I still remember Murphy's goal against Essendon* when he was hemmed in and had to run towards the boundary line.He then snapped the goal around his body on his right foot from the right flank on the point where the 50 line intersects the boundary line. :-D

We must've been 50 pts ahead or 50 pts behind. In a tight last quarter, Murphy would always miss. One of the worst "good players" this club has had. Spare me.

Swan McKay was inconsistent as a goal kicker. But give us a grand final with a crunch shot at goal, and you could go to the bank on him every time (same with Sellers and Rod Ashman). 1979-81-82. Now there was a team. :sigh:

In terms of raw stats the winner is (for Carlton players with 50+ goals):

Peter Jones - 284 Goals 110 Behinds for 72% accuracy.

Harry 'Soapy' Vallence and Charlie Davey have better accuracy but the data for behinds is not complete, so we cannot know for sure.

Peter McKenna kicked 36.23 in his 11 games for Carlton

My pop always said Soapy was the best shot for goal he ever saw.

as for Percy's stats, well most of his shots would have been from no more than 25 out I reckon. 8)

Wait for it....before you laugh...Justin Madden was always a great set shot for goal and once upon a time he kicked a great running goal :-D

There were certainly better kicks for goal, but in terms of kicking pressure goals that counted, when the team needed one, Sticks was the greatest.

Yes; Percy was deadly accurate usually in an arc of 20-25 yds out....he was the best resting forward pocket ruckman of his time.

Peter McKenna DID miss a few in 1977 obviously....we drank far too many cans in those days!.... :-D

Not really, I only remember him missing just about every easy shot he had in 2004. Kicked 4 goals 8 playing 21 games mostly forward, then 8 goals 7 this year.

Not a goalkicker, let alone a sharpshooter for the Blues

Percy was great but i still remember the day at Moorabbin in a Statewide Cup game ( thats what it was called back then ) where he kicked the post from the goal line. Many of you may have seen this footage, and i can tell you i'm the little runt next to a bigger runt watching.

Greg Kennedy in my time.....by a mile!! Just a magnificent relaxed kicking style. Another bloke that was a pretty reliable set shot was Jimmy Buckley....and Mil Hanna couldn't miss from any distance or angle before he did his knee.

What are everyone's thoughts on Fevola's accuracy?

Granted this year it wasn't too flash hot but let's not ignore the fact that he had OP for a majority of the season, but when he's on song i.e. season 2004, he is a pretty straight shooter.
