Carltons new long term future
Posted Nov 16, 2005 - 16:03 PM....(Sportal)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Carlton president Ian Collins has flagged the introduction of a youth policy that will see the club field a competitive team in the "medium to long term".

Collins outlined the club's plans for moving forward, after a horror run that saw it pick up two wooden spoons in four years, in an open letter to Blues fans contained in the club's official magazine to be published later in the week.

As a result of the review the board has approved the allocation of extra resources to the football department including extra coaching staff, increased technology and improved facilities and recruiting capacity.

Collins acknowledged that the Blues had generally done a poor job at managing their list since their last flag in 1995 and vowed the club would "rebuild our side with quality young players" now that the draft restrictions imposed for salary cap breaches had ceased.

Good news about extra footy department resources though.

Looks like Pagan may be able to get someone to bring him his coffee, rather than making it for himself like I understand he does now.

Finally!

Some sort of plan!

We should trawl through what Collins said about some of our recruits in 2003. Did he describe Clarke as a quality player - I hear they are quality blokes but quality AFL players may be a bit rough. 100 games proves me wrong but what does Collins mean by this?

I know Pagan described De Luca and Prendergast as quality people last year which I think meant nice guys but said nothing about their football ability.

I want quality too. Let's have four top 40 picks every year from now on (while we can). That should build a good list.

Now all we need is for someone to teach him how to smell the coffee.

God news that we're officially going into re-building mode. Wonder what we were doing for the last 3 years?

The re-building started last year with all our early picks being used. Pretty hard to rebuild prior to that when your first picks are 100 and 102 in the draft.

Geez, this time of year before the final list lodgements you'd reckon there'd be a queue of blokes looking to make Dennis a cup of coffee. I've been living under the impression that coffee making abilities might be the only thing keeping some of our players at the club!!!

Yeah, damn straight. Recruitment policies of the last 3 years is all about retreads ? No mention of certain draft picks in 2003 being lost because of AFL imposed penalties / salary cap breaches? What retreads did we take last year? Chaff for picks 57 and 73? GIVE ME A BREAK PLEASE. Talk about 2003 all you like, with late picks and player trades, but we've been on the rebuild path since that point in time.

I wish there really were Fairy Sub-Editors out there.

A very open and honest letter from the President. At least we know where we stand on a variety of issues.

Well done Collo.I dont know if you read any of this crap on this great website but you are trying to get the ship afloat for starters despite all the personal shit you have had to deal with in 2005.You are to be admired.

The letter highlights that Elliott should never be allowed to run a business again in his life.Go blues .We will be back both on and off the field in a few years.

I'm pretty happy to see we've inherited pick #26, wonder if we still have #36 as well.

Hmm, anyone reasonably familiar with our constitution? I'm guessing it must state a minimum number of board members, and possibly a maximum, rather than a defined number, otherwise Hunter and Swan would HAVE to be replaced.
