Where are those comments coming from? :?

Quote:
"It's something I really want to do and step up and be a leader of this club and help out the younger players," said Teague, 24, who won the best and fairest in his first season (2004) with Carlton after three years at the Kangaroos.

"I'd love to be known among the playing group as a real leader of the club."

Give him a break. Whether he deserves it based on his 2005 form or not, the fact that he wants to be a leader can only be a good thing.

Or would you rather have, say, Camporeale in our leadership group?

Teague as a leader hmmmm
My first point is Teague should first concentrate on himself getting kicks, because he didnt do that in 2005
Once he plays he position consistantly he then can help out others. However on the flip side isnt Prendergast part of the leadership group.

The one think i do like about Teague is that he takes contested marks and backs into packs, he does need to do it more than once every ten weeks though.

Teague you can say that you want to be in the leadership group, but the younger brigade would respect you more if you lead by example on the field. That was Campos fault he told the younger players what to do, but he was never an example for the kids?

Jordan Russell talks about leadership having been here for 5 minutes and people sing his praises.

David Teague, who has to date achieved more in his career than Jordan Russell, including winning a best and fairest award, talks about how he wants a leadership role and is met with some of the responses propounded in this thread.

Why the difference? More double standards?

Good post.

We're crying out for leaders and as soon as someone puts his hand up for a crack at it, some of you laugh at his suggestion.

His form in 2005 was poor for the majority of the season, but I'd like to think he could step up and be a leader around the club. He sets a very good example with his attack on the football and his disregard for his own safety while taking a mark.

According to the "2006 leadership group" thread, Teague was in fact in the 2005 leadership group already.

Is that right?

What a load of rubbish!!

What was he concentrating on in 2005 then?

Backing into packs and taking contested marks isn't the example we want out younger players to follow?

I can't wait for Teague to silence the critics next season. Saddington will be the best thing that happened to him, he'll take the 3rd tall and Teague can get back to the game that won him the B&F in 2004.

He's slimmed down so he'll be more mobile, won't be required to play taller than he is. We'll have a more accountable midfield next season so not only with the ball be coming down less and under less pressure, but he won't have to worry about covering Campo's man who's drifted into the F50 alone.

Welcome the news that Teague is willing to provide some leadership we're sorely lacking and I hope our new draftee's have a look at his commitment to the team and follow it.

Totally agree, Braddles.

Saddles will release Teague from playing on blokes like Stafford, Sandilands etc etc and allow him to play his natural game.

Who is next then? Eddie Betts will have an article on him at the weekend the way things are going.

Teague would be a great leader around the club in terms of training but he is not guaranteed a game next year IMO hence should not be an official leader of the club.

Young Bentick well there is a leader  Where is his article?

The more people that put their hands up the better.
We have no REAL leader but we might have a group of players that together as a WHOLE TEAM might make up for it..

Leadership is about action not titles. If Teague acts like a leader he will be treated like one whether he has a title or not from both within and beyond the playing group.

Leadership is about going the extra mile, not taking short cuts, not doing the comfortable thing or going through the motions. If every player were to take a leadership role we wouldn't be talking about early draft picks, tanking etc.

Leadership leads to self mastery, self mastery leads to realisation of potential, realisation of potential = success.

So good on you Teaguey - cut out the article, put it in your locker and look at it every day. Then go out on the training track and be a leader, inspire others to be their best. Bruce Doull inspired others - he was a leader - he did not seek leadership positions, he said bugger all, but he led by his actions.

Teague's courage is plenty to build a leader upon. His fearless attack on the ball is something all players should aspire to. In terms of his willingness to put his head over the ball he is already up there with the likes of Dean, Hickmott and McKay. If David wants to push himself and his career to help better the team, he should be applauded, not ridiculed. Let us get behind our players when they make claims for greater responsibility, it is something we have been screaming for all year!
