Earlier in the year we had some calls to follow the West Coast recruiting philosphy, that is, recruit lots of KPP's until you find some that will make it.

Looking at the squad now, with Carlos, Aisake, Batson, Hartlett, Kennedy, Bower and Edwards it looks like we might actually be following that path.

Interesting times to come. I was just wondering if those who were advocating this plan are happy with the progress the club seems to be making?

i am quiet happy with the way we are heading. picking up 3 talls is a good thing in my opinion because that is what we lack and already have enough midfielders at the moment.
We also picked up the best midfielder so nothing to complain about.
next draft (next year) there are some really good midfielders so we will have a better look then

Dont forget Raso, dont know if he's grown at all but he too would have to fit into the kpp bracket.

Looks like we're gonig to have a pretty aggresive forward line with Fev, Waitey, Kennedy and Setanta! Geez there are some big units there. Then add Eddie, Fish, Skinny and we have a pretty damn good forward line...

Midfield: Murphy can slot in there an extra year onto Walker Bentick Simmo Carraz Blackers and Russ and theres some real pace injected into our midfield

Back....looks like whitnall will slot in back there which isnt such a bad thing, then big Jack Bower a fully fit T-bird, a fulyl fit Livo.... :? and Saddo to slot in there and thats not looking to bad either...

I tell you what the future does look very bright for the Carlton Football Club.

How is Norway going steve?

How many of these pro-WCE recruiting calls pointed out that they had one of the best midfields in the comp and could afford to churn through the KPP's until they won a premiership? With Cousins, the father-son who polls more brownlow votes than the Best #1 pick, and Judd, who I think will be a legend after winning his third Brownlow in 2010, plus Kerr, Fletcher (who lots of Eagles fans hate apparently!), WCE had the luxury of using a very high propotion of picks for KPPs.

Today's draft makes me think either:

* Carlton are happy with the young midfielders at the CLub. Perhaps Russell, Blackwell and Smith are viewed as very high probabilities?
* Pagan's game plan requires the KPP links to work better for everything to fall into place OR
* Pagan and Sheik are the same person...S P I N E !

The 2 clubs have 2 very different lists and today is intriguing.

I actually got back into Perth a week ago, Molsey. I've finally update my profile...

Norway was great fun, i had 5 months over there and would love to go back one day. For now it's job hunting though.

Defence is our biggest area of concern IMO.

Next year we add Saddington's experience plus Mclaren can drop back & assist when required.

Hopefully we will get some games on the backline out of Bower & Edwards next year with a view to consistent spots in 07.

Good work Blues!

According to Caz in the recruitment forum Murph and Mr Kennedy were the top two players on our list. After that, all the best midfielders were taken by twenty.

I don't particularly think we went for KPP deliberately, we just went for best available player (about bloody time).

The youth we have at the club now is very promising. Cannot wait for 2006.

COME ON YOU BLUES

Yes, promising young talls a plenty at Carlton now and I don't have a problem with that one bit. :-D
I would've liked another draft pick but I'm very happy with what we've got from all I've read (thanks cazzesman & Wayne Hughes).
The blues are on the way back!!! :-D :-D

I find this one hard to stomach with Muston still available at #20. I fully support Bowen's selection but hope that it was because there is something seriously wrong with Muston for us to not consider him. How that mid-teens pick from Adelaide for Sporn would have been handy...

Muston had a knee reco six months ago which has failed.
He's about to have his second reco in 12 months.
Risks like that are OK for Hawthorn who are stocking up on kids.
I think we need to play the percentages a bit more.

Muston had a knee reconstruction during the year. There have been reports that there are complications and he might need corrective surgery, or even another reconstruction. I don't think Carlton are in a position to take a risk like that with our third pick at this stage. It looks like Hawthorn felt they were in a situation where they could with their 5th pick.
