How come all you moral do-gooders that wanted to win that one extra game and tried to be all high and mighty about it are now so over the moon that we have Murphy and Kennedy? Wouldn't you have just prefered to go in with pick 5 and taken Scott Pendlebury while Collingwood picked up Murphy?

No such thing as a "Golden Spoon".
Culture, History and Futures are built on spoons just like premierships.
I doubt the majority of supporters are happy for the club to head this road again. For the minority who keep pushing this barrell .... some things are better not said.

Who won the spoon in 1995 ?

Surrey.. you dont excell in lateral thinking...

The game has changed.. there is a draft and a salary cap.
This was done so the flags are spread over the comp mopre.. in theory what the AFL would like is each club wins a flag and a wooden spoon each 16 years...

Now there is one way you can make sure you do better than average.. because of course its not going to work in exactly that manner...
... you need class.

Hawthorn did a study where they believed the overwhelming proportion of clubs winning a FLAG over the last 30 years had 12 or so A GRADERS....

What they worked towards is making sure they stock up the cupboard the best they can to achive the twelve.. They didnt pretend otherwise.
Three years and Hawthorn WILL BE a POWER!!!

They bit the bullet.

Compare what they have to the Kangaroos...

Whos position is better???

"Lateral Thinking"

To think laterally means you archieved or completied something by doing things differently. We did none of that. We just bent over like StKilda, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Bulldogs, even Collingwood.

Lets get something straight. The majority of the 'non-tankers' were against talking about the priority pick after round 12 and effectively wishing us to lose every week from that point on. Nearly everybody accepted that to win either of the last two games would have been counterproductive ... an indictment of the system we operate under.

Whoever revels in us winning the wooden spoon is effectively a St Kilda supporter in disguise. Go support the 'Aints and their saviour Hammill who you'll probably describe as "prgamatic in accepting a better monetary offer" rather than the judas c$#t that he truly is.

While last place may have got us Murphy, we could have still snared Ellis in the top 3 without the embarrassment of going to the Carlton-Bombers game in round 21 and enduring the taunts of the Essendon* supporters who described as a train wreck... or seeing us kick one goal for the first 3 qtrs against Richmond ... or being one of the 12,000 people at the MCG to watch Pavelich destroy us singlehandedly or ... need I go on ...

Hopefully this is the end of our period of pathetic, uncompetitive mediocrity. Does an additional player make up for the last 5 years of heartache and abuse from opposition supporters ... I don't think so.

Synbad, I love it when you use capitals - it makes your rants so much more eloquent!

How would we have got a top 3 pick? Our first pick would have been 5.

Just when you think the tank / anti-tank debate is over and buried, along come the same old bunch just to shove it all back in your face again. We came last, we got picks 1 and 4. Nothing changes that. Get over yourselves and move on everyone. Bring on 2006!

OK ... so it might not have been Ellis but at the very least one of Kennedy, Dowler or Ryder would have still been available at 5.

Now that the rewards of finishing last are plain for us all to see, I am just asking the simple question of whether or not it was worth it. We had to listen to the do-gooders go on and on about how we had to try and win every single game, about how 'we are Carlton' and all this other nonsense. Instead of contributing to the discussion though the majority of responses are full of sarcasm and denial, I guess the do-gooders are feeling pretty stupid wanting to win a meaningless game in round 21 or 22. :)
