Now I'm just askin other people thoughts on this so please don't go nutts at me :-D

I think he can have an impact next year. With the new rule changes the game will call for people with a big tank and we know that he has that.

I was watching a few games on vid of the 2004 and he really had a pretty good year.

I would play him as a HF and just tell him to run, run and run some more. Even if he only get 5-10 touches a game he will still need a tall player to run with him, which may free up other players.

Does anyone else think he can turn it around next year or do I need sleep?

P.S. I must need sleep cause I like wiggo too

If he's allowed to play the midfield tagging role he did in 2004 then Prenda is fine.

Long-term he's probably not what we're looking for because his disposal isn't up to it, but his best games were following around Jeff White and the taller midfielders and he was effective doing that.

He's not a ruckman and where we went wrong early this season was playing him as the relief ruckman. It sapped his confidence

22 games for northern bullants...tied with Bandy and Henneman as possibly the worst players getting a semi-regular game of AFL Footy

I think the fact that Prenda is a good character and a bit of leader around the place carries a lot of weight around the club. Put is this way, he is a good influence regardless of his lack of footballing talent. And considering that we are thin in the leadership area, his presence is valued.

No questioning the character of the guy, but anything less than 20 games in the Bullants means we are struggling.

won't/shouldn't get a look-in, unless we're really tight for injuries

Good clubman....like others have said...limited ability but maybe his value is is on the training track and in the dressing room...he will give us some brave contests during the season but wont be in our best 22 when our young recruits step up....future role at the club though in some capacity.

But that sort of presence doesn't have to require him to be on the list. Runner? Maybe as hes still studying he could be paid some lunch money to turn up?

Prendergast is a great tryer but nothing else.

Prednergast finished the year in the Bullants and only his 2 year contract and quality person' persona kept him on the list. THose that finish a season in the Bullants are lucky to have stayed.

With the recruits we got, theres no role for him anymore. He would take a spot of Walker, or Bryan

PLEASE DONT TRY HIM AS A KEY DEFENDER AGAIN...

I disagree with Athorn on Prendergast not playing in defence.I think this is his spot if he is to become a senior regular.Play him on Ottens,Stafford,Gardineretc, the lumbering forward and Prenda will do the job. With a short mobile forward line like the Doggies have he will struggle.Basically its the highway for Ian if he plays with an ant on his torso for the majority of next year. For sheer effort, l hope he makes it ,however the numbers are against him.

You're kidding right? Your comments flow through to him wearing the ant on his chest.

Prendergast has been tried time & time again in defence, just not in 2005 where you may remember it other than his fine Give up 4 Goals in a Quarter effort of Pavlich.

I remember Bandy giving him a bath at Telstra Dome. Bandy! Probably the only other no-skill tall-runner in the AFL. If Prendergast cant make it as a wingman, or throw your body in midfielder, then he wont make it.

This argument against players has always baffled me.

Shouldn't be on our list but is so let's get past that for starters.

If Prendergast is to play for the Blues next year he should be given time to play at CHF IMO. He won't be a carey, Brown, Hird, Riewoldt, Pavlich, etc, but could have a similar impact to that of an Earl Spalding.

With Prendergast at CHf he may just free up Waite, Fisher, Fevola and Whitnall from having to bust packs - something Prendergast can do often.

Look I know he is an average player but he is still on our list. I say play him early and give him an extended run across the half-forward line and see if he can fofer anything there, he has actually looked better there IMO than at half-back, ruck, wing, etc.

By seasons end or hopefully sooner guys like Hartlett, Kennedy, Bower, Raso and Edwards will be developing nicely and looking at playing as KPP in 2007 and beyond. These guys along with Waite, Thornton, Fevola, Fisher, Bryan and Livingston hold the key to our KPP woe's of late.

All I can say is if a players main attribute is to run all day you don't put him on a tall lumbering forward. If his asset is distance running then surely you'd want to use that. He could possibly play a role where he sticks close to the more mobile ruckmen of the competition?...But there's no way he could ever match it with the leading forwards...he just doesn't have the footy nouse to know where to stand and I doubt he could keep up......

He's the best backup rucking option that we have ...his ruckwork shits all over Brians and Deluca's(they will improve though). I see it as this...if McLaren turns out to be a decent option or Brian and Deluca really step the rucking up, then I see know place for Prenda.... :(

I wouldn't go that far BB. :?

Prenda is a great clubman/teammate but he's an ordinary ruckman with ordinary skills who's just an ordinary footballer.
As you say Brian & DeLuca have scope for improvement wheras Prenda doesn't imo.
