Wouldn’t it be just brilliant if the club were to acknowledge the history of past champions by ensuring that famous numbers were allocated to the right young players? Obviously the type of player can’t always fit the bill eg: Jezza/Fev…No friggin comparison, but with Father/Sons and a bit of common sense they could come up with the right players to wear famous numbers.

I would like to see the first 12 numbers of these Blue champions filled by these future young tyros. It means as few changes of number, but it would be worth it. If Waitey wasn’t wearing Vinnies old number 30, I‘d want him moved up as well.

1. Steven Silvagni--------Andrew Walker
2. John Nicholls-----------Jordan Russell
3. Mike Fitzpatrick--------Marc Murphy
4. Steven Kernahan----- Josh Kennedy
5. Ken Sheldon-----------Sam Sheldon
6. Gary Crane------------Kade Simpson
7. Wayne Johnston-------Tomi Johnston
8. Wayne Blackwell-------Luke Blackwell
9. Ken Hunter-------------Bret Thornton
10. Adrian Gallagher-----Adam Bentick
11. Bruce Doull-----------Paul Bower
12. Barry Armstrong-----Andrew Carrazzo

Where are Davies, Whitnall, French and Lappin, you may well ask? They simply aren’t gunna be part of our next flag, so time to ship em out as soon as possible. Trade, Retire or De-list whichever comes first. :P

What you think troops? 8)

So we are going to change the numbers every year are we?

The odds are that a number you put forward, for whatever reason, don't match up with your "heroes".That will also apply going forward(it always has)

Once allocated the number has to stick until that player leaves or requests a change. It has always been the case and hopefully always will.

Sure you will get some who don't live up to a certain player but that is the nature of things!

i strongly believe players should stick with there original numbers and make them famous them selves.

look what happened when Hammil changed to number 4?

where possibly however i reckon Father/sons should get first crack at daddys number if thats what they want.

Spot on Gerry.

We would be one of the few clubs where #43 actually means something.

Make the number your own I reckon, don't try to live up to someone.

I like what you guys are saying, and agree for the most part.

However, by passing on the number of great player, it's kind of a way to acknowledge a young kids position in the team, or to inspire him to greater things. Who knows what tangible difference it makes to the player in question, it is debatable, which then may bring us back to what you guys are saying anyway.

I love the history of numbers.

I'd hope we do this to a certain degree anyway with Father/Sons and the idea behind a bigger player taking #4 with Hamill/Livo.

Its great that Ang made #39 his own. Peter Dean was great with #35 and of course Kouta and #43.

With the draft I think we're finding the younger players are taking the highest available numbers so maybe the days of our stars having numbers over 30 are over anyway.

Does that also apply to posting on internet forums?
