In reading the Herald Sun today I came across this tidbit on page 20. There's no link as its such a pox article but here goes:

---------------------

Poor Old Steve "sticks" Kernahan got all hot and bothered after our story last week about Percy Jones' pub and the sudden lack of Carlton celebrations in the bar.

We said some mischief makers near Lygon St were telling us the reason the '95 premiership team reunion wasn't held at percy's was that the Jones boy and Sticks had barely spoken since the Elliott/Collins presidential bunfight.

Sticks rang to put the record straight.

Told us several times that some of the most memorable p-ss ups of his life had been with Percy, then suggested we go away and do something not physically possible to ourselves.

Don't shoot the messenger Sticks and as for the language ... tut tut keep that sort of thing for the p--s ups, please.

-----------------

It sounds to me as though the writers of 'The Eye' are trying to make out that it's not their fault in reporting rumour as fact and Sticks is the one who is at fault here? 'Dont shoot the messenger'? Well, if they're full of it who else are you supposed to shoot? I don't reckon that they'd give up the identities of the supposed mischief makers, do you?

Mods, sorry for the direct quote but there was no link.

'salright Athorn...I saw it too and knew there would be no link.

It is just a typical reaction of people who throw around rumours as facts and get pulled up on it.

Reading that, I think Sticks' language was more than appropriate.

Wait til we are back op top. I would love to see Sticks take great pleasure in telling those ****s to go a get ****** that they dont deserve his time after all the years of shit that they have published.

On secound thoughts I would love to see him tell Adolf (opps sorry) Demitrispew that as well.

Sticks has never come across as someone who suffers fools gladly. Plus, he's easily fired up. (A bit like The Prez). Apparently David was the same. Whenever Rhys thought a party was getting a little dull, he'd fire up the Kernahan brothers for a bit of a laugh.

I was in Percy's the other night. My mate reckons it has the highest turnover rate of any pub in Melbourne, with the implication being that the clientele were particularly, errr....... male.
