As much as I hated this guy as a player, I am hearing glowing reports about him as a coach.
The feedback I'm hearing through Football Victoria and the TAC system is fantastic for a guy who's been in the system for 12 months.

He coaches Gippsland in the TAC cup (premiers), works as a development officer for the club and conducts courses and seminars for Football Vic directed at developing junior coaches.
Tactically he is excellent, develops club structures to maximise education of players and he is a brilliant speaker.

This is the type of assistant coach we should have chased hard.
He is innovative, challenges contemporary football thinking and pushes absolute quality into the system.
Until we can develop a willingness to attract guys like Hudson and create an environment which will allow him to challenge himself and the incumbents, we'll be chasing tail.

One of the simplest but most impressive things about Hudson that I read was the following......

When he took on the role of coach with Gippy Power he also got his father in to assist. One of the things he implemented amongst his coaching group was that no-one to swear at a player or swear infront of player when addressing them individually or as a group.

Now that is only a small thing but after listening to some of the TAC coaches talk this year I think it really shows the caliber of Huddo compared to a few others.

Regards Cazzesman.

I reckon he is a bit STIFF to get a warning based on performance.

Back to the topic at hand...being Paul Hudson - yes...very good coach at junior level - his use - particularly of the sprint coaches at Gippy Power was very good and really made a difference at that level. As for swearing at the players....well the jury's out on that...these kids are young men and they are well versed in the art of swear language....as a former coach myself- the odd swear word can emphasise the point you're trying to make so it's not necessarily a bad thing.

In the meantime - you were all so quick to take the moral high road with Wayne Carey being at Carlton...well Huddo had an affair and seperated from his wife while performing the coaching gig this year.

That said - PH is an excellent speaker...I have a copy of Gippsland Powers Pre-season schedule and the note to all players at the beginning of the 20 page document is inspiring stuff.

When I find time - i'd like to put it on here - I'm sure it will make interesting reading for some...would be interested to know the schedule that Peter Mulkearns has the kids on this year.

Why would you sleep around on Leah - she's is a very tidy piece of work. I 'll give her a shoulder to cry on.

Why is it that you guys continue to use every opportunity you get to take pot-shots at the club - quite frankly, it's getting really boring. What happened, did the club knock you back for assistant coaching positions or something? :?

Was the purpose of this thread to tell us all about PH's coaching potential or to tell us that we're gonna "be chasing tail" for the next decade?

I just checked out my last 40 posts Luca.
They included 2 training reports telling us how good the players look on the track, 1 post defending the club about the OO development and heaps of other banter.

Oh, and one post saying if we dont get some fresh blood in to challenge ourselves, we'll be chasing tail.
Now just as a secret between you and me, we finished on the bottom of the ladder. We're already chasing tail. (btw, no one mentioned the next decade but nice touch of drama)
You might like the fictional posts but I like a balanced view. If we do well, I'm the first to pat us on the back. If we screw up, I'll have my say about that as well.

Either you dont agree with that or you dont have the capacity to comprehend it.
Whatever the case, dont read it. because to quote you, your persistent sooking is becoming "really boring".

BV. I actually made this call back in October when we were looking for assistance coaches.
http://www.talkingcarlton.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=154270&highlight=#154270

Was talking to Paul the other week (nice guy, he was selling some of my stuff at his garage sale), said he would of liked to have a go at Carlton, but didn't get an invite... Said he happy to have another year at Gippsland to prove he wasn't a 1 year wonder.... Maybe next year we can piss off libba and get Huddo....

Good early call Bosman.
Everything I'm hearing is super positive about him.
He has the other TAC coaches questioning their structures and processes after one year in the system.
I can understand AFL clubs wanting to give him another year but if he continues his rise, he will have the pick of positions.
He wont be easy to acquire without giving him a prime assistants role with a lot of responsibility.
I dont believe our current structure would allow that.

This year was the time to get him.
