Who are the great players that we have forgotten or dont talk much about, who at a St Kilda would have been world beaters but at Carlton dont get much of a look in against the Jezza's, Sticks and Nicks and Doulls and SoS'S etc. as legends of our club? I'm thinking blokes like Tommy Alvin, who I watched a mid eighties game on foxtel last night and he was superb. Justin Madden would be another, Paul Meldrum, Gary Crane, get the drift? Barry Armstrong. Wayne Blackwell Who are yours? |

John O'Connell. Played in the 70's and was part of the famed backline that used to be called out week after week on "League Teams": "O'Connell, Southby, Waite". Nearly as famous a Carlton line as "Nicholls, Silvagni, Gallagher". O'Connell just went about his business, picking up the resting rovers of his day and was rarely beaten. Old drinking partner of Bruce Doull - they used to shout each other beers and the only conversation between the pair was "Your Shout". ![]() |

Michael Sexton's name might not be as familiar to non Carlton supporters as the backline stalwarts he stood alongside in Dean, Silvagni, & Mackay...but what a solid contributor he was. |

might get a bit of backlash for this one but i thought adrian whitehead was underrated, did some great stopping jobs down back in bumper years for the carlton footy club. and of the current players i think cory mcgrath's importance and leadership for the team go relatively unnoticed. |

Post subject: | The famous centreline |
I think it is universally aknowledged that the greatest centreline of alltime was that famous Richmond trio of Bourke,Barrott, and Clay. They were a fantastic combination for sure. But at that time we also had a very formidable combination who, although not as well known, took them on and more than held there own.I speak of that brilliant combination of Gary Crane,Ian Robertson, and Bryan Quirk. An absolutely fantastic centreline who took on allcomers and beat the very best. |

Brett Ratten was underrated. Sensational player. Agree on Michael Sexton. Such a pity his body broke down |

i know he has been mentioned, but big earl spalding would get my vote. his importance to our last premiership side was staggering. just a fantastic competitor and an awesome target across the hlaf forward line. could throw matt clape in there as well. |
