Post subject:  Women of Carlton - Summary

Hey guys, had a good chat with the new guys tonight. The following little snippets I would like to share:

Marc Murphy: said he was getting the number 3 jumper to me, and this communications guy heard him and said "It has not been fully decided yet" and marc said "shouldn't i of said anything". I then said to the communications guy "Carlton don't want to tell us anything". I told him throughout the whole year I collected all the articles I could find on him hoping we could get him "He said lucky then or else they would of been a waste". He is very excited, and when asked what position he was earmarked to play in round 1 vs melbourne by Dennis Pagan, everyone laughed because it was obvious, he said because he was small, probably wing or forward. Dennis said you better get going then because you have 16 weeks to get ready.

Josh Kennedy: Did not care where he went, told him how excited I was that Collingwood took Thomas and we got him. He said that Thomas was a gun, and will be a good player. I asked who was better Ellis or Thomas, and he said they were both good, and different. He is living with his grandmother, and Paul Bower is also living there. He barracked for Collingwood, and I told him not anymore you don't. Played at the MCG in the Gaelic footy and really enjoyed it. He did not have his sling tonight, and pagan asked him where it was. He did not have a full re-construction, but had some ligaments fixed. Should be running after Christmas. He wants the number 5 number. Everyone cheered.

Paul Bower: Very shy, has no family in Melbourne so living with kennedy and his grandmother. Has not played at Telstra Dome or MCG before. He barracked for St Kilda. I nearly chucked. Told him to quickly get over it also. I asked him and kennedy if they knew which club they were going to and Paul said that he knew he was coming to Carlton. I said that someone on the internet said that Carlton were interested in him months before the draft, and he asked whether I read that from Big Footy. I said yes, but I don't really believe what is on that site. He wants number 18 jumper.

All players were nervous and asked if they had to speak in front of everyone. I said get ready because you do need to speak individually, and I explained what happened last year.

Did not speak to Jake Edwards, but on stage he has leader all over him.
He is very articulate and well spoken, barracked for Collingwood, but rightfully said "but now Carlton".

Saddington was very mature also, as you would expect and said at least he can read footy in the papers again. He wants number 9 jumper.

Oh Jack Silvagni was there with Jo who was there, and pagan introduced him to all the players. Jo said to him when these guys are veterans you could be playing with them someday. Also Jo said that her family is Carlton through and through, and Steve was on his own with the Bulldogs.

I cannot think of anything else to tell you all. It was a great night.

SOS got very "narky" with Andrew Maher on SEN this morning when he was interviewed. Maher asked him about the way Whitnall presented himself at first training session and SOS went berky and said "How would I know anything about that?" Was very uncomfortable radio for a moment or two.

Impressions of the recruits from last night -

Marc Murphy - level headed, no hint of arrogance
Josh Kennedy - reserved but enthusiastic, seems to have a good bullshit meter.
Paul Bower - one of those quiet types that will change once he crosses the white line.
Jake Edwards - old school footballer, serious leadership qualities. Wouldn't be surprised if he debuts next year.

Lets hope they can play. :-D

Saddington - wants no. 43. Very Australian wit. Interesting that Sydney approached Carlton.
