I was looking thru all of my footy papers, books and magazines; and look what fell out of a '95 Carlton Yearbook ! Just looking at this fixture brought back all of the joy and pride associated with that year....could it ever happen again? ![]() |

A side as dominant and with as many big name players as Carlton 95 couldn't happen now with the draft & the salary cap being enforced by the AFL. Lions of 2001-03 are the exception however as they had the extra $500K allowed in their cap. |

The extra money the Lions had had little to nothing to do with their dominance. Most of the team - Black, Aker, Voss, Leppitsch etc - were being paid far less than "market rates" because of their desire to keep the team together. Awesome find, Warbs. I can't believe we blotted our copybook with bad losses against such softcock teams..... |

Yes it is KK....I was rapt I still had it....what a team....what a season! For those that may want to know who the two losses were to; they were: Round 8 vs Sydney at the SCG at night.....Lockett was on fire.... Sydney 21.6. 132. def. Carlton 8.12. 60. Round 9 vs St.Kilda at Waverley.....a miserable performance....our first goal came late in the third qtr. St.Kilda 11.14. 80 def. Carlton 3.6. 24. |

You'd have thought, if you didn't know any better, that the two losses would have been honourable to other finalists. But no - two beltings to two teams that finished 12th and 14th. Yeech. I love the "Won! Yay!" next to the GF though... ![]() |

I love the "Won! Yay!" next to the GF though... ![]() I guess that just shows in black-and-white just how damaging complacency can be. And that "Won! Yay!" is classic. I remember betting with the Area manager of the company I worked for at the time that Diesel would be Norm Smith medallist about 3 weeks before the event. Made up for him coming in to the store 2 years prior and taunting me in front of customers. |
