Post subject: | Unfounded Aisake speculation |
I was looking into some rumours about one of the new Brisbane recruits and found an interesting note about Aisake apparently intending to quit. (see botom of article) This seems ridiculous, and makes me doubt the motives of the author. It would seem that this is a self serving argument intended to undermine young players here in order to push the anti-AFL-drafting-GAA-players loby. I am particularily interested to see what Beano has to say about this. http://www.unison.ie/sportsdesk/stories ... si=1552983 "Laois star could call time on his Aussie Rules experiment Thursday February 2nd 2006 ADVERTISEMENT Colm Keys THE week after the GAA put pressure on their AFL counterparts to shut the gates on under 21s leaving these shores, there are indications that a recent Irish recruit could be on his way back home. Brendan Quigley left for Brisbane Lions with his Laois colleague Colm Begley last November after performing impressively at a trial in Limerick. However after returning home for a short break at Christmas he is now reported to be unsettled and contemplating a quick return to Ireland. Quigley's Laois under 21 manager Sean Dempsey, under whom he won an All-Ireland minor medal three years ago, has kept in regular contact with the player and had no definite word of a return yesterday. Unsettled "I was only speaking to him on Monday and he never mentioned it," said Dempsey. "That's not to say that it won't be happening because when he was home he did admit to being unsettled." "I wouldn't be surprised if he came home but I wouldn't be surprised either if he stuck it out and made a success of it. The reports from the club about the application of both players has been very good," said Dempsey. "I'd be in touch with Brendan more than once a week. On Monday he was looking forward to some camping expedition at the weekend with the club. "Maybe when the season gets up and running he'll adapt better. At home he was a carpenter and was used to be being busy every day. Over there he trains for a couple of hours in the morning and then again in the evening. In between he might be finding it hard," said Dempsey. "To the best of my knowledge he has had no change of heart," added Dempsey whose side will be among the favourites for the All-Ireland under 21 title. "We'd love to have him back but we'd like to see him succeed too. He went out there with an open mind. He knew he might not adapt and wouldn't see it as a failure if he felt he had to come home." There are also indications that Aisake Ó hAilpÃn will soon return to Ireland after 18 months with Carlton Blues in Melbourne. Aisake's older brother Setanta has been given a senior contract after two years as an international rookie. Restriction The possible return of Quigley, so soon after committing himself to an international rookie contract, would give impetus to the GAA's argument that there should be an age restriction on players who are coaxed over." |

Further to the above post http://www.hoganstand.com/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=56181 Agent slams ’pure fiction’ rumour Aisake O hAilpin Thursday, February 02, 2006 Well-known Aussie Rules agent Gerard Sholly has rubbished rumours that former Cork GAA star Aisake O hAilpin is about to return from his stint Down Under. O hAilpin has been based with the Carlton Football Club in Australia since last year and has already played senior reserve team football for his adopted club. Suggestions that the Corkonian is on the point of returning home have been dismissed by Sholly, the man who recruited O hAilpin. "Only yesterday, Aisake impressed the Carlton Football Club hierarchy with his display in a pre-season warm-up match at Optus Oval," Sholly claimed. "Aisake is very happy at Carlton and has no plans whatsoever of even thinking about returning to Ireland," Sholly added. |

While referring to the club as the "Carlton Blues" is technically okay, in that context it kind of sounds a bit odd to me. Nice news about Aisake there too. Good luck to them both. ![]() |

Anyone have any ideas on how we can keep this relationship blossoming? How about we all pitch in some money to send her some flowers for Valentines day this year from Aisake. That will be a start! We cant leave it to him to worry about trivial things like that. He's got training to worry about!!! ![]() |

Why not? I reckon that's how the eagles kept Chris Judd - just arrange for a stunner to walk past him one day wearing next to nothing, pay for her to keep herself as well dressed as you can... BOOM! Keep the best player in the competition in the West when he should have moved home! |

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.... ![]() and he's enrolled in a uni course at RMIT, which is a 3 minute walk to Optus. The speculation= just speculation. Aisake is dedicated to pursuing a professional career in this country. |

Sorry to opinion so far but I was away for a few days. Am meeting Seán Óg this week, spoke the otehr day, young Aisake is loving it and is pretty determined to make it, probably going to tough it out with the Ants 1's this year and hopefully make a go of it the folowing year with the seniors. I dont know for sure Synbad, but to the best of my knowledge, Aisake is going out with a girl from cork who visits fairly regularly. I dont think any blues fans have anything to worry about, the young lad from the lions was just a different type of lad thats all, anyway, there is one person that Aisake is determined to make it just to prove wrong. |

Post subject: | quigley furphy as well |
http://www.hoganstand.com/ArticleForm.aspx?ID=56227 seems that the Quigley report was a bit premature too. "Quigley going nowhere Friday, February 03, 2006 Former Laois star Brendan Quigley won’t be chucking in his fledgling Aussie Rules career, his club Down Under has insisted. Brisbane Lions spokesperson, Simon White, says the player - sharing a house with countymate Colm Begley - has no intention of returning back to Ireland in the short-term at least. "Brendan and Colm are working hard in pre-season training and have fitted in really well into the Brisbane Lions set-up," White claimed. "They moved into a shared house last week and have no plans to leave." |

Thanks for the update Beano. No doubt we will expect too much too soon from Setnata and Aisake, but they are really exciting athletes and I think we sometimes underestimate the strength of character required to not only take up a completely foreign game, but to come half way across the world to do it, competing with guys who have played the game from when they were born. Sooks like Rocca S Grant, and Headland couldn't even move interstate to play. I really hope the two Irish boys make it, and they are progressing well, but whatever happens it's pretty exciting to have them here. I wish we had recruited Sean Og 5 or 6 years back. He seems to be a really mature sportsman and a good leader, but let's not get impatient. Setanta has two years to find his feet and Aisake probably three. I really hope they make it. |
