Blues meet to consider seeking AFL assistance

Quote:
The Age believes there is a push from sections of the board to seek AFL financial assistance, with the Blues set to announce another significant loss at next month's annual meeting.

The very rich supporter give F/A to the club compared to their wealth..... especially one or two of the board members... they know F/A about footy... they know F/A about running a club.. dont see the point of a couple of them even being in the board..

Buried within an otherwise 'bad news' article is the fact that the club has received an assurance from the ATO that we won't have to pay that $1,000,000 mooted last year.

I drove past Collingwood's Lexus Centre yesterday, and saw the Sony and adidas and Emirates signage... sigh...

Actually, I've never understood why so many brands queue up to be associated with collingwood. They have many supporters, but if you don't follow them you hate them. And, for me, it's the kiss of death for any brand to associate themselves with collingwood.

Damn the New Rich!

Well you would expect that these brand's Marketing Departments would now a bit about demographics and the disposable income of Collingwood Supporters. This is where Eddie is smart and uses his conflict of interest to the hilt. These brands aren't associating themselves with Collingwood because their supporters are going to run out and buy Lexus's and fly to Dubai on Emirates and buy luxury appartments - (the closest they are going to get to a Lexus is when they torch one  ) they associate themselves with Collingwood and Eddie because of the reflected exposure they get with Channel 9 and they way Eddie has used his connections to get Collingwood the primest of primetime exposure - this is going to increase tenfold now he is CEO of Channel 9, even if they dont broadcast football anymore.

I suppose if the club needs the money then they would be diligent to apply for assistance, however, regardless there is a stigma associated with applying for AFL assistance. Clubs that have sought this money are reminded of it consistently, especially by opposition supporters!!
Ouch, how the mighty have fallen....

I lost confidence in this board when they pledged that the move away from OO was conditional on a $20M upgrade of the ground (via AFL, state and federal funding). Besides the reality that we needed to move anyway, this condition was critical to the push by the board to receive member support. However, now after the move has been ratified we find that this funding is far from guaranteed and a lot harder to obtain. And no concrete plans are in place for this upgrade. Were we misled?

Like you said the reality was we had to move. Were we misled, maybe the board genuinely believed at the time we were going to get funding - you know "plausible deniability". :?

The future of the stadium also will be debated tonight, with the club soon to finalise rebuilding and renovation agreements with the AFL, the Melbourne City Council and the State Government.

Sounds to me like they're a fair way along in the process if we're expecting to finalise things soon.

Exactly right Budzy.....surely there are some rich Carlton supporters - who through their companies can pour some money into the club. I don't know how much these guys give to the club already but where are guys like Richard Pratt (VISY), Bruce Matthisen(?) the so-called pokies king and the Grollo's. Anyone else? Where's our "white knight"....where's our JOSEPH GUTNIK??????

What a surprise, but perhaps not. Surrey still believes the world is flat!

By the way have you yet to work out how to get to the Docklands?

Its my understanding and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, that to get the 1Mill from the AFL, you have to reduce your TPP to 95% and reduce you football departments cost. I don't know where our TPP are at the moment, next year with Kouta pay dropping it may be reduced but the football department costs must be high. I can't see the AFL giving us 1Mill if the head coach is getting around 700-800,000 a year.

If this is true and goes through, we should never have a crack at St Kilda again for handouts.

We shouldn't.

But we will

Sorry I can't resist ..... 7dom, It amazes me that you continously want to make remarks like these towards me, yet you ignore others in this thread telling it like it is before hand. A few choice words to come to mind, but like I said .....

You are becoming very embarassing and twisted.
